A number of folks in the central Texas taco community have this same radio. I was able to talk directly to @Tynan and @TX_Lucian across the lake at about 25 miles... No repeater! They are who pointed me towards that model

    Good stuff

    Cool, will look into it.

Can it be modded to work on the 11m band?

Hmmmmm, I don't believe so, but I've not looked for any mods for it. It is 2m and 70cm out of the box.

Ya, still want to maintain that for some normal use around the area. Always good to have when you run into traffic, pic up good information quickly. Will search the forums and see what others are saying, also check with a local cb shop, they may know how to modify it.

I cannot. That radio is VHF and UHF only, 11m is in the HF bands. The 400 requires a license for "HAM".

If you're looking to modify a radio to do 11m (CB) and 10M (HAM), there are radios like this:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAGUHB...olid=1C2TIYUK1D37Q&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Legally, you're not allowed to /transmit/ on 11m (CB) at the wattage that radio puts out, but you can legally listen. That one above, is modifiable in the software to transmit/receive on both bands.

For a slightly less expensive one, there's also this one, which is TINY an fairly easy to modify:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0140QP3VU/ref=dp_cerb_1

Requires de-soldering 2 pins and resoldering two others to transmit/receive on both bands.

Buy your radio from hamradiooutlet.com. They normally have the lowest cost anyways:

    Radio:
    https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-014544

MARS Mod (full unlock of the radio):
    https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=71-002367

And you're done. Can pick up GMRS (and not-legally transmit on them as well), MARS (Military Auxilliary Radio System), as well as police, fire, air traffic control, etc. Those frequencies should have transmit hard-locked out.

Edit: These radios are 2meter and 70cm, and slightly out of band. CB and 10meter, they're not able to do, even with the MARS mod.

Yep, saw that in some quick searching

Yes I know that it is illegal to use an 10m radio on 11m setup, but truck drivers do it everyday as it is a very common setup. The radio you all have is cool but not really what I am looking for in features as I want to maintain use of the 11m band but at the same time want to have the option of the other.

Saw a couple videos about this when I was looking at the other radio yesterday, easy mod to do on your radio.

Yeah, I hear ya. The 10m/11m radio - I'll probably get the Anytone 6666 for my truck. 10m isn't an 'everyday' band for HAM; its very weather/atmosphere dependent as to when the band is 'open'.

Unfortunately, there's not a crossover for all frequencies/bands. The Yaesu gets you GMRS & 2m/70cm. 2 meter, we've done 25+mi point to point - 70cm, I work at 130 and I-35 (NW Austin), and easily hit a repeater in Bastrop. Through 2m/70cm, and repeaters, it opens up to worldwide communication. I talked with a guy in Coff's Harbor (Australia) as the fires were burning down there early this year...and have talked with a guy in the Swiss alps who was on a little handheld radio (through digital repeaters, of course). Lot of cool stuff you can do.

Nothing that's (realistically) portable that does it all, however.

Ya, seeing that. I may go down the road of a better radio one day but at the moment this is what I am looking for and it will take care of my needs. I have the GMRS setup and recently added the 6db antenna to it, seems to work but unless I have someone talk to on the other end.....its pointless...
