Not knocking any of the findings so far. I know you guys are going above and beyond finding and real time testing. I'm not OCD. I kept staring at the nub terminal for the coil and I've had bad experiences in the past with bad coil plugs, not connecting and causing further headaches. And that was with the standard terminal plug.

A ruthenium, heat range 7 plug should be available anyway. It's a common plug size for many turbo OEM applications when cross referencing

Bad coil, or bad plug tip? I will message him. I do agree, they should be available regardless, but for now I'll take what we have available to us. More options are always welcome, however. Thank for the info. :hattip:

Both. Some plugs unluckily separated (luckily, not my motor and not the terminal tip but the insulator cracked) . Must common (imo), bad coil pack from a used motor. But it's not uncommon replacing plugs (right?) as it's the less expensive part and testing for spark shows positive when cranking/ idling. Then, breaking up under load due to fouled plugs. I had one too many sleepless nights with used JDM motors lol.

It's not uncommon to replace plugs on these at all, yes.

Insulators cracking happens from time to time, it sucks yes, but that is the unfortunate compromise we must deal with when attempting to extract head further from the cylinder head.

We are lucky if we get 30K out of them truthfully. Remember plugs are and should be treated as a consumable item at this point so the real question turns into, "why not run them?"

Because the dealer said my iridiums are good for 100k. I still changed mine at about 75k though just to be safe

I prefer the OE fitment and peace of mind for now.

One less new thing to try and experiment when there's options with similar performance and exact fitment.

Don't worry. When my Densos are done, I can hop on over to camp ruthenium and you can tell me, "I told you so." ;)

Lol @ the dealer. You introduced boost into an NA engine. Standard service intervals and part longevity expectancies should not be accounted for anymore.

    Sounds good to me. Lol.

Thanks again for tips guys. I ended up using my chop saw and old fine tooth carbide blade. Cut through it like butter. Held it down on a piece of wood with a conduit clamp (dual sided would be even better). Seemed easier than pipe cutter and no band saw here.

Used overpriced ARP bolts . NOTE: I had to chase the threads as the coating or threads were a bit rough. Also using ARP black oxide bolts it was recommended to use oil not locktite to install.
ARP (661-1005) Hex Oxide Bolt, Black
      • M8 X 1.25 X 40 HEX BLACK OXIDE BOLTS
      • Size: M8 X 1.25 X 40

I used oversized washer that was 22mm so it did not overlap the bearing race since nothing Ace had matched well. https://www.mcmaster.com/98040A105/

I believe conservative mods and proper maintenance shouldn’t and wouldn’t take away from the longevity of our motors.

I never said longevity of our motors. I said longevity of parts and normal service interval expectancies.

If a vehicle is built properly from the factory using non inferior parts (I'm looking at you regarding inferior parts GM) and sees proper fueling and spark the majority of it's life, boosted or not there is no reason why it shouldn't last a very long time.

Yes but isn’t the service interval for the iridium plugs that come with the s/c 100k miles? Same as the oil for the blower?

Iridium plugs are rated for 90-100K service intervals, yes, but being that more fueling is required for boosted applications than NA to keep things cool the plugs are bound to foul out faster. Where have you been? Lol. This has been a known about for a long time! Especially in this thread.

But isn’t that mainly because some of you guys have been super boosting if you will with very small pulleys. Someone like myself that has stayed rather conservative may get they projected 100k miles out of my plugs. I’m in no way gonna go that long, but I’d expect to get at least 50k

    My shit is all stock.
I wouldn’t remove Iridiums that were still in good shape to add these. But, I think that the Iridiums in this application are probably good for 30k intervals at best. Those that think they’re going to last 100k will surely be disappointed. Especially if you’ve upped the boost. Mine were WASTED after 20k.

I did make sure the coil end worked with the coil just fine. Pulled a coil and removed the boot to make sure it was all legit. There’s a little spring in there that simply rests on the tip of the plug. Really basic.

Dude, this post just makes too much sense. It makes so much sense that it doesn't belong in this thread.

    Get out.

Hahaha. Yeah no, seriously speaking though. Spot on with the logic on plugs brother. The sooner everyone here can come to terms with the fact that these plugs are consumables, treat them as such, and understand that maintenance on a supercharged engine is bound to be shorter in intervals over the latter, the sooner everyone will be in a much better position from a vehicle running standpoint and the sooner everyone can move forward with their lives with piece of mind.

Seriously guys, things would be worse. Much worse. We could be changing spark plugs every 3,000 mile oil changes just like the supercharged Mustang Cobra guys do.

Especially out here in the Bay bro. So many idiots. Some moron was tailing me today in a newer Accord pretty ugly. I slowed down so he would have to slow down as well because there was some landscaping truck in front of me, he tried to go around me because the truck switched into his lane, so I sped up to a pace that forced him to go back behind me, kept at the speed limit and went past the yellow light that he had to stop at.

Shouldn't had been tailing me so close bro.
