Packed with Technology | Falken Wildpeak A/T3W

Apologies if this or something similar has been asked.. (247 pages.. My brain isn't working for a proper search after a shit graveyard shift.) I recently found out my local tire shop has become a Falken dealer, so I'm super excited about finally being able to grab some Wildpeaks. Sticking with 265/70R17s on a stock Sport... would I be better off going with new wheels that are:

17x8 -10 offset 4.110 BS,
17x8 0 offset 4.5 BS,
or
17x9 -12 offset 4.530 BS?

I understand I'm probably going to have a tiny bit of rub regardless in the back of the wheel well where the mudflaps are. Unfortunately for me, I can't take the flaps off.. state law in MA, they're required. But I do have a heat gun and a very sharp knife that I can try to melt plastic/push it out of the way and/or try to cut the rub spots.

I was leaning towards the 17x9's, but as a stock truck.. would I be better off going with the 17x8's instead? Either the -10s or the 0's?

 

The wide wheels coupled with a low offset creates more potential for rubbing. The 17x8 ET0 is the best overall fitment for the proposed tire size

Just had a new set of 265/75r16 put on a couple days by @Discount Tire. I have included pics.

I had a previous set of Wildpeaks at stock size, and was very pleased with their performance. They hook up great off-road, through river crossings, over rock and dry pack, and climb with impressive stability and grip. They perform excellent on road as well with very pleasing road manners. They are smooth and quiet, and are sticky in rain and snow.

I considered several different options as I shopped for a new set. I wanted to go up a size from (265/70r16) stock so as to increase sidewalk height and gain more rubber. After researching for several weeks I came to the conclusion that the Wildpeaks still gave me the best balance/compromise between confident off-road performance and meeting my needs for my daily driver. If anyone is in that limbo of deciding on the right tire for your 4wheel rig, especially if you’re trying to avoid compromising comfort and good handling on road in the process, I highly recommend this tire, in this particular size. You really can’t go wrong with the Wildpeak.

I do have experience with other tires, and another comparable option out there that has been discussed a lot on TW as well is the Cooper AT line up. I have found that more often than not, you will get more miles out of a set of Cooper AT3(4s,LT,LTX), but the difference normally isn’t anything too extreme. Aside from that, I do not have any other complaints or hold-ups with the Wildpeak. Obviously, one’s application and driving style, as well as personal preference vary from person to person, but my own experience has been very positive. This is a great tire on the Tacoma, and has been for a lot of people.

Just picked mine up in 265/75r16 SL Load range. Was impressed just seeing them on the shop floor how much better they looked than the stock kevlar wranglers that I just punctured one this past weekend that couldn't be patched. Gonna hit a trail this sunday to christen them.
I had them priced matched to Walmart online @ $130.51/tire... (5) tires with certificates out the door ~$955. Im very happy!

 

I really wanted to give these Falkens a shot then I remembered looking at pics of my old truck I had Falkens and they were the worse tire I'd ever had. Very significant wear at just 12k miles and even had chunks of rubber starting to break off. Then I came here to scroll some of the early pages in these thread and people had the same experience.

 

Who's got a good long-term review on these tires? I have been running the Cooper 4S for about 50k and they have been outstanding tires and I could easily get another 10-15k out of them with the remaining tread, though they do have a bit more road noise at 50k it's hard for me to imagine any tire being as good all-around as these. That said, I do get bored and am interested in the Falkens but most reviews I see are from folks who freshly put them on... most any tire if it balanced well will ride and handle well with new rubber so I'm looking for the post-honeymoon reviews...

 

Thats why i went back to this thread in the early post. A lot of users that had them starting seeing issues with the rubber cracking etc Honestly if you ask me this Falken Wildpeaks thing seems like a FAD. Everyone loves on them because they are cheap and so they buy them new. Reminds me of the Milestar Padagonia Fad in the Jeepers Groups. But long term Reviews are coming out and I'm not impressed.

Yep, my 50k Coopers have no such wear / cracking and I've given them a bit of hell. Boring I guess, but probably be throwing another set of 4S on there in a couple of months! they've been incredible tires - also quite cheap, but the long-term performance aside from "slight" noise after 45k (mind you, still 10% of a MT wha wha) has been impeccable in all conditions.

I’ve had mine for 30K miles give or take. Load range E. Tread still looks new and they’ve worn evenly.

 

I have read plenty of good long term reviews on the Wildpeaks. You can find negative reviews on all the popular tire choices that guys are running on their Tacoma’s. Trust me I know, I researched the crap out of it before I bought.

 

I’m only around 15k miles with the 275/70r17’s but they’re been great so far

 

I have 30k plus miles on them now, I like them. I'm 95% on road, so no point to wear out expensive off road tires. If I did off road more, I'd go with a hybrid tire.

They are noisier than before now at like 35k miles, but I'm not one to care. It isn't mt loud.

 

The Falken Wildpeaks are an OEM tire on some vehicles. I think that proves it isn't a social media hype tire. The stock Gladiator Rubicon ran the Rubicon trail on Wildpeaks. Unlike an mt tire like the Milestar's, these come with a 55k warranty.

Yes, it is a cheaper tire, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. I'm probably gonna get another set. I can post a pic of mine at 35k miles if you want, but I think there should be some floating around of the tire at this mileage. Wears like a normal tire, no issues here.

I'm not saying it's the best tire ever, but they are a darn good tire. I recommend them. There are some out there with issues though, that's why it's good to have a warranty.

 

I had two sets on different law enforcement trucks in my fleet. One of those trucks got over 70k miles out of the Falkens and the other had 46k miles. Both vehicles driven on highway routinely at 90+ and severe off-road conditions in very abusive manners, chasing down drunks or responding to their accidents in the back country. It is by far the best AT tire I've ran in 12 years of managing a fleet of patrol vehicles. The ONLY reason I'm not running them anymore is a new, mandatory tire contract doesn't have them. The second that contract expires or expands to include the Wildpeak AT3W, I'm back to them.

 

Are all the P rated ones made in China? I have a set of LT285s and a set of p285s and the build quality between them is drastic. The LTs have a much better mold, very little deformation, and hardly any flashing left on the tires where as my new P rated ones all look like rejects. LTs made in thailand and Ps made in china.

 

Photos? I have SLs made in Thailand and they look like any other new tire I’ve bought. They look and feel thicker and more durable than the stock tires.
