Tinkering around on a new design. The wife’s 4Runner always has an empty hitch receptacle, so I made a drop in Baja S1 reverse light. Cool thing is the locking pin is still retained through the hitch so it can’t be stolen. Quick disconnect in the back if/when I need to tow something. The wide cornering lens combined with the optimal placement(middle) is great coverage. let me know what you guy think!
If there’s enough interest, I already ran it by @memario1214 on doing a Combo pack with the BD light:)
(Obviously final will be black, this is just my prototype)

    Nice work, great idea.
I bump my hitch into my parking spot way too often to have BD back there..

It is amazing the things you create for our trucks and the 4runner. Design aesthetic looks good. Would the light excessively heat up the plastic since it’s in an enclosed space? Idk the specs on the S1.

I would hope that it is available in black instead of white too for an even more inconspicuous look.

Also idk if people would be interested in this being wired to the reverse lights for extra brightness, but including a wiring guide for that would be cool.

Interesting idea, I’ve seen them before. But I have my “anti-tailgating/harpoon” hitch step that usually deters people from tailgating me :)

if you could design something that could still allow access to the hitch itself then it might go on my to-do list

I like the idea. If there was a way to directly plug in to the the wiring for reverse lights that would be an added feature.

Could be a good easy option for a follow light on trails. I could see myself getting one depending on final cost.

Looks sharp and clean! People could use a T-tap off the local reverse circuit wire to power it easily with very minimal wiring, there is plenty of overhead available in the circuit. Dedicated wiring is obviously better, but more complicated.

Kicked around the idea of a vehicle specific harness... Problem is that you'd have to make something dedicated for each model, and the additional cost required would push people away when all you'd need (as you allude to) is a simple T-Tap.

Right, T-tap keeps it simple, universal and inexpensive. If looking to do some kind of jumper plug on the 921 socket (for Tacoma) you could consider including multiple end adapters and having the consumer assemble the adapter piece to the harness based on the model. Not unlike how some LED pods have you assemble the connector yourself.

I wouldn’t run it for extended periods due to the heat issue.

Why not just use the trailer connector to power it though, can't use a trailer and the light at the same time so that's not a issue.
I guess it would need to be a 7 pin connector to get the reverse light circuit though and that would up the cost but then its universal.

I would definitely be interested in this if you can make it be powered by the trailer connector.

Same. Especially if this can be moved from one vehicle to another on the trailer plug.

That is not a bad idea, you’d want to pair it with the trailer harness relocate/flip though, as the trailer harness already hangs low. Adding a plug would make it more likely for trail damage off-road.

Ok quick googling brings me to these.
Here is a blank repair 7 pin plug, you could just connect these two wires to it on the reverse and ground pins, then run them to the hitch light, you could run some wire loom over the wires to help protect them.
Its a LED light so the wire could be 16 gauge and still be enough.

Personally I would assume people would remove it before going off road, if you want off road reverse lights flush mount bumper ones would be better, I had them on my tacoma but havent gotten around to doing it on my new truck.

I like the idea of a harpoon hitch inflicting as much damage as possible to tailgaters following too close, LOL!, could you shoot off a photo?
