Interesting. I’ve seen heated flooring for kitchens and bathrooms but never for a shop. Fancy, I like it.

So this week I've been forming up for the last of the concrete foundation work , getting ready to pour the 2nd retaining wall grade beam and the concrete columns for the posts that carry the outside storage roof

This retaining wall grade beam connects to the end of the retaining wall I poured with the main building walls and is a grade beam bridging over some more large tree roots so its rebarpalooza

That section of wall and column all buttoned up

Next up I'm forming up the 8"x8" concrete columns that carry the 6"x6" posts for the roof support

I'm doing a 1" canted detail top and sides of these columns like I did on top of original retaining wall / column pour

I'm installing the cant strips into the boxes on the sawhorses

Top cant strip complete , column form buttoned up

    Column forms in place

It poured rain here last night so my post holes are full of water , yay !

I still need to brace columns and build a ramp as I will be wheeling this concrete . Pour is scheduled for Monday

Surveyor comes Wed to confirm siting for building inspection then we can turn the page on foundations and open Chapter : Framing

Yesterday was a bit of a washout so I finished up things today

Columns all braced and wheeling ramp constructed

Thanks for sharing this. After seeing all the work that goes into building the foundation, I am curious your thoughts on post-frame building. Wouldn't that have been easier/cheaper to build? Or is there some reason that wouldn't work here?

seriously though , I don't have any ill will towards post frame buildings , it's just not my expertise . That and in our jurisdiction this building is considered a heated accessory building and as such must comply with Part 9 BCBC which means this building must be built and inspected to the same rule set as a multi million dollar house , including insulation values , air tightness , and lateral restraint for seismic and wind loading .

Used to sell radiant heating stuff back in the early 90's. Customer in upstate NY with 3' of snow on the ground and had a perfectly clear, dry concrete driveway. It's nice.

Is radiant heat efficient? I’d think it would take an awful lot of hot water to heat up a concrete slab. It does sound really neat and if I lived in a place that was always cold I may even consider it. I despise the cold so I will probably never live somewhere that justifies radiant heat in a shop floor. Haha.
