Hey guys gals, is there a reason a lot of Toyota (tacoma) owners go with Mobil 1 for oil changes?

Probably not the best thread for that question. There are tons of subjective--and some objective--reviews of Mobil 1 all over TW. If you search Mobil 1, there are tons of threads. Here is one of the more recent posts that has quantitive testing:

    Oil comparision

Question for anyone about oil . I just got my 2020 Trd Toyota tacoma 4x4 and I was under the impression that it has conventional oil. Or does it come with synthetic oil.thx

I think its just a popular oil, not just a tacoma thing

They changed it somewhere around 2016, even the 4runners that still have the 4.0 now use 0w-20 synthetic

I'm pretty sure 0w20 weight oil doesn't exist as conventional, only 'full' or 100% synthetic.

Im getting ready to do my first service at 15k miles. 5k and 10k were both done at my local dealer. I wanted to see what the consensus is on fluids. Right now I am leaning towards
    1. Mobil 1 0w-20 with OEM filter for engine oil
    2. OEM ATF WS for transmission drain and fill. I know there seems to be a lot of people on here that don't like the Toyota WS but I don't want to mix fluids and don't really want to go through the trouble of a flush.
    3. Mobil 1 75w-90 in both diffs or redline 75w-85?
    4. Not going to do T-case until much later but when I do is Ravenol the way to go if I don't want to pay Toyota prices for the OEM stuff?

    Thanks
    BOZ

Sorry, forgot that my profile says 2004. That was my first Tacoma which I sold in June of 2018, only had 75k miles on it FWIW. Anyhow, I now have a 2018 TRD OR. Will try to figure out how to change that.

    1. I wouldn't worry about engine oil until 20k if it was changed at 10k.

    2. Stick to WS unless you plan on flushing out all the WS

    3. I used redline, its listed as a direct replacement for Toyota liquid gold on redlines website

    4. I used redline for this also. Don't remember exactly which one, but they list it as a replacement for toyota liquid gold

Thanks for the info, I will try to find the redline you are talking about for the T Case.
