If one lives where you never see winter ( below freezing for days) Run away Run away that truck should be scrapped!!

To me I would suck that up in a minute after last winter season my truck is in much worse shape I don`t know if they changed the liquid Brine concentration or what .

Sure be aware of the frame and other issues like any vehicle that age it really comes down to price.

Of course, I'd check it in person, but here in Indiana what I see in those pics definitely would not scare me away from it, because unless I am willing to travel pretty far away, it's likely going to be considered above average condition.

Now this, on the other hand, is some fine work right there!

Sometimes you need to work with what you have on hand.

Really have not mastered the concept of measuring .

My brother has a 4th gen 4Runner and they are nice but I would choose my 1st gen or previous 3rd gen 4Runner any day. The 4.0 is faster highway but it’s a dog when trying to accelerate, unless you’ve got a manual. And personally I don’t care for the interior. It’s all personal preference but I wouldn’t say 1st gens are too expensive to be worth it. Just depends on what you’re looking for and if you’ve got the want to work on a truck in depth.

Update: I now have 1st gen. I've looked at a LOT of these over the years and this is a very nice truck. I banged and poked all over the frame and it's rock solid -- surface rust only.

The owner had taken excellent care of it, no wrecks or repaints, drives smooth, runs strong, recent timing belt etc., and the interior shows much less wear than I've seen on other truck with similar miles.

Now I just have to fix that "creative" pipe work at the muffler then start making a build list!

If your frame looks like this under the peeling frame paint, then it is bubbling/peeling because of rust. Sand it down to remove the loose paint and spray it with FF. It will stop the rust.
Areas that aren't peeling are because there is no rust underneath

    [6-month follow up]

So my coworker begged to buy it from me right after I got it so I let him have it. He was loving it as expected.
Couple weeks ago put it on a lift to check a rear axle seal ... and the frame snapped at one of the leaf spring mounts. :bananadead:

Just goes to show...these frames are always way worse on the inside where you can't see the rust damage.
