My grandma just knitted some sleeves for my truck. She's now crocheting a steering wheel cover, but I'm too embarrassed to show you.

Gotta admit, hadn't thought of that. Might have to do it on mine. I will however probably gut the paracord first. I've done several knife and axe handles and found that the cord lays flatter, covers better and will leave more room for handholds, when gutted. Thanx for the idea.

 

I was excited to do this mod months ago when I found this thread, but the bottom screws on both handles had loctite on them. The screw heads stripped despite buying and using a Japanese-specific screwdriver, so I had to drill them out. FFS.

End result is there are a lot of imperfections; for this being my first time doing this it's not bad at all. The grip feel is NICE. I tied my tight enough that I didn't need to shrink it with hot water / steam, but that also meant aching hands for a couple of days. Each one took me a little over an hour to do. The first one I did took 20 feet of paracord, the second took 22 feet. So if you plan to do this, buy way more than you expect to use.

Few things I learned:

• To do this, you'll need both hands on the paracord. Doing this while it's still attached to the truck is not an option. So I zip tied it to a PVC pipe and then sat on one end. Hard to explain, but you can slide the handle to the other end of the pipe to make working on each end of the handle easier.
• I followed the video in the OP but used tape to hold the paracord in place.
• I suspect the silicates from Amorall will make starting the braid difficult, so I washed my handles with dish soap.
• With every new loop, the paracord gets twisted, and this can affect the quality of the next loop. Make sure the paracord isn't already under tension by untwisting it before proceeding.
• The video didn't explain at all how to end the braid and tidy it up. Look up other YouTube videos for instructions on that.

On my truck, I didn't even know there's a 3rd oh shit handle above the window on the passenger side, so I have to buy more to do that one!

 

Definitely doing this to my truck! i have loads of paracord readily available so its totally free, and its a plus that if you ever need a bit of cord, its right there. also if you have a local army surplus story, BUY YOUR PARACORD FROM THERE! it will be way cheaper than any fabric store. Also BoredParacord f you want to shop online.

Edit: just did it! First “mod” I did to my truck so I was reluctant to take it apart but the whole process was very easy. I used black paracord just to keep it looking fairly stock, and it turned out better than I had hoped!
