    Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone might be able chime in here.

I am planning on installing a roof rack soon. I had the idea to plastidip my roof to keep it protected in a sense. I dont trust myself wrapping it in vinyl and there aren’t any shops who’d do it here.

Is there any reason this wouldn’t be a good idea?

Planning on black, or grey, with the clear coat on top maybe even a metallizer?

Did you cover up the black portion of your rims? Did you do while still on the truck? Looks really really good!

Wow, that was 4 years ago! I now have new wheels. My brother put those on his SR5. But yes, I took them off of the truck and layed them down on a large flat cardboard box to Plastidip them. Came out really good and lasted through many car washes.

There's a lot of pages in this thread. Has anyone dipped stock wheels with the bronze yet? Or did a two tone on their wheels?

This was back one page :D

I'm not ragging on you - I was looking to see if anyone did the stock OR wheels in white, I figured I'd go back one page, after that....Oh well. Bought black already anyway, just curious to see it.

If the weather holds out I am doing this sunday, in theory. You used 1/2 can roughly per wheel? I have 4 cans + 2 gloss. If there's any left I'll do my bumper covers. You just taped the wheels? I will be taking them off to rotate anyway so might as well two birds one stone it and do the plasti dip with them off the truck. :D

It's easier to just garbage bag the back of wheels cover calipers and spray as many coats as you can. The more you coat evenly the longer it will last. The gloss is good for the uv protection also to help with longevity.

I was going more for appearance :D

I have to take the wheels off to rotate them anyway, might as well take advantage of that.

So I'm thinking about running the old school colors of red, orange and yellow across my hood and down the sides at angle. Any thoughts or advice on how to do this successfully without it pealing off between colors and taping off. Going on 19 metallic grey. Will post pics if turns out successfully. Lol

Im no painter by any means. I would do it in layers. Spray a yellow line 9 inch wide and let it dry. Tape off the yellow so only 3 inches of yellow is exposed in the middle, spray red. Let it dry. Tape off the yellow and red so only 3 inches of the yellow stripe is visible spray that with orange.

That would be my approach. Not sure if the colors would show though the other colors. Good luck.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was going to do, just wondering if tape is going to stick to dip when peeling off layers

I think as long it's dried you should be good.

I could be wrong on this or not sure how much it affects the plastidip. But hasn't some people said to help remove plastidip, you spray more plastidip on it? The chemical reaction like softens it up or something? Could be wrong on that one though.
