Happy 4th of July America......

Actually it's only about 237 years. We may have come up with the Declaration around the 4th. But it wasn't signed until the 8th and presented to the King of England on November 11, 1776. And we were not a sovereign nation until 1783 when the Treaty of Paris was signed. But what the heck what do facts have to do with it.

The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence.

 

Used to be a number of holidays were celebrated on specific days. Then the idiots on DC voted to change them to Mondays. Didn’t change what day of what month something occurred just provided a chance to spend more money.
