Did the "new" finger on the the screen parking brake thing. Got it right the first time. Only tested it on carplay, had zero effect on things like waze and google maps. Still cant type in new addresses or search with the on screen keyboard. Would of tested youtube, but I have no idea on how to get that to even play when In am not moving..

I know now :), wasn’t really thinking that the unit has zero control over carplay movement detection or restrictions. That’s more of a jailbreak solution.

Have u tried this? I have not tried it software wise but I (thought) it would act the same as a wired in bypass. I know 100% that with the wired in bypass that the gps antenna and vss wire have to be disconnected. This is how I’m running mine now. YouTube will continue to play video while driving. Hopefully someone that’s done it the software way can chime in. Thanks

I can confirm that all settings are now accessible while moving and video also plays, at least using the built in browser and YouTube. I don’t have an hdmi source set up to test but I would think that would work too. Works surprisingly well!

Only thing I found that doesn’t work is the keyboard in CarPlay, but Siri is easier to use anyways.

Ok cool. I think I will leave my setup then. Bypass and vss/gps antenna disconnected. I am able to type in google maps and waze while moving through the head unit. I don’t understand why it would act different but whatever. Lol. At least we are getting somewhere! Just 2 weeks ago nobody had a solution

There is no keyboard in CarPlay. It is always controlled via Siri or via the phone.

You’ll have to jailbreak the iPhone. And modify the Carplay Software, as it doesn’t have a keyboard (Carplay is running on the iPhone)

Apple Maps also has a keyboard when the car is parked or not moving fast. Click the search icon and it will give you the Siri option or keyboard, until you start moving. Then it’s only Siri.

Question for those who have done this install. Where does the Yellow/Black wire pictured above connect to on the radio harness? I got it that the Yellow/Green is not used but I dont have a wire to connect the "Foot Brake" wire to.

I think I got rid of the error: ‘no vss wire connected’. Started the truck multiple times.
I tapped into pin 17 of the 28pin connector. Kind of interesting that the Maestro wire harness doesn’t even have that wire connected. The pink wire out of the maestro unit is generating the signal, but seems to start late, causing my head unit to throw an error (which disappears, and seems to have no effect on anything. So I’m thinking it is just generating the pulse too late). Below is a picture for the wire harness AutoHarnessHouse sells for Toyota.

Today after having used CarPlay for years, in many different cars, I also learned that there is a keyboard in AppleCarplay :p

It is not connected on Pioneer radios (see the next page of the Maestro instruction).

No. I took the factory mic out and put the pioneer mic in it's place.
