Ran through the scales at the dump yesterday. After dropping I was 4730lbs: me 160lbs, ~30-40lbs of tools and recovery, 80% gas. 5600-4730 = 870lbs.

Funny I come across this thread after noticing the 950lb capacity on the door jam today, DCLB TRD Sport AT. Seems my configuration contradicts the chart that was posted. A Canadian thing?

Sumosprings. I had the same problem until I got Dakar leaf springs, and they were an amazing stopgap for a year until I got around to the Dakars.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O4GD38M is a link to the ones I used.

They add dampening too, so you'll ride noticeably smoother unloaded.

... As for the rest of this thread, I think the entire thing is absurd. I have Dakar springs and upgraded 2.5 coilovers with 700lb springs up front. With armor, I'm probably over the weight rating of the truck unloaded.

I'm only really worried about stopping, and for the sake of stopping, use the weight rating of the truck + trailer with no brakes if it makes you feel any better.

I think weight ratings and fearmongering about getting pulled over for being "over the weight limit" is a bit paranoid. Just drive the speed limit and leave appropriate following distance, is that hard? :notsure:

@thomas3ford , yea I'm having the same thoughts. Love my Tacoma, but my payload is 1150. I can't put much weight on it at all. I have done some asking around and most say airbags and suspension (leaf springs) to help with the balance and drive, but wont increase the payload. Upsetting.
