University of YouTube... I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned there. From math that I would love to forget, welding, mechanics, etc.

Im gonna have to look up TFS. That sounds like a neat trick with the tube.

It’s the basics of tube bending. That, and building a roll cage were the most helpful videos for me. Roll cage was helpful because the main tube of a cage was 4 bends in the video, so essentially the main tube of the bumper I was making. A big takeaway was also using masking tape on things and making marks for measurements. It sounds so obvious but I never thought Of it. It helped a lot. That’s why there’s tape all over my truck.

Yeah those are the test bends I had hanging on the wall. 90', 45', 30' and 60'. Anything less than 15 was called a bump...lol. The "visual" is a big help.

Yup. Haha, I usually don’t get nervous on an obstacle. But that one got me nervous. I take it you’ve been there? I was watching a few buggies there when I was waiting for one rig to get out of the way.

I’m on the left. Watching the buggies climb the waterfall was impressive.

I usually stick to a 9a-9p schedule because the homes here are really close to each other: like reach-over-the-fence-and-touch-their-stucco, close. The key for me has always been that I make myself available to my neighbors. I repaired one guys fence and welded on an exhaust for another. They usually just peek over the fence and ask what I’m up to today. At my last place, the guy next door was a painter and we kept the same respect for each other. He even helped me paint my current place free of charge. I think it’s important to be neighborly. Don’t see much of that these days. At least not around here.

I'm certainly not a professional welder and no one will ever accuse me of being a fabricator, but I got a welder because I wanted to be able to stick metal together when I needed to.
Perfect example..... Building a fence/gate for the new house.

There's just a huge satisfaction in being able to do it myself and not have to call in a welder.
My little inverter running on 110 with 200' of extension cord. The first cord is so heavy though, I don't think it's a consideration. It's probably 10 guage where the shop wiring is only 12. Second cord is 12

Wanted the steel for forever structural integrity but it looks way too industrial.
Covering it with some gnarly old weathered wood salvaged from an old dismantled split rail.
Wired up the short fence. Wood is just laying on this long section. Not sure if I want to keep wiring or if I should lace it with some twine or something.
    IMG_20200705_191338.jpg

Also debating on covering the gates or not.
    IMG_20200705_192101.jpg

And just missed getting a picture of a huge coyote inspecting my work. :infantry:

Great work. Great welds. I'd leave the wood off the fence. This way you can see who is on the other side of the gate.

A giant mess right now
It's 40x48x16 and was my primary reason for buying the place (don't tell the wife :gossip:)
I think I'll have enough room to build a room in the back for a pool table/lounge area. I also hope to install a 2 post lift before too long.
Got a ways to go though. While it had an electrical panel in it, there was only one outlet. I've got one wall full of outlets, 220 for the welder and plasma, lights wired and one of the 2 garage door openers powered. The other one is still running off an extension cord :D.
Air lines are about half done too.
    So much work to do...

    Good point.
I also kind of have visions of a big, ranch style over head arch, whatever they're called. The 6" bollards would certainly support it. They're buried 3' in concrete.
