I have a seccond gen taco that’s a 2009. It has the camera in the tail gate but it doesn’t have the screen in the mirror. Is there a way to wire up the camera into my double din radio? Or do I have to get the mirror to use the screen? Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

I believe there is an adapter on Amazon. I cant remember for sure. But I have a 2009 and I just installed the mirror since it was almost given to me.

It's possible, but if you get a new head unit, you may want to consider a new camera. Paying to convert the OEM 6v signal to 12 volt may not save you much, plus there is some butchery/pigtailing of wires that needs to be done. Aftermarket cameras are readily available and probably have wider field and depth of view.

Are you certain you do not have the correct mirror? Just look behind your tailgate. If the camera is connected to the harness, it was probably stock. If not, the latch or tailgate may have been from a donor truck.

I have a 2009 base 4x4. My truck didn’t have the mirror screen but had the camera in the tailgate handle already.

    Always something
I have the 2009 TRD 4x4, and it has the factory camera and mirror. The image from the factory mirror is really small, smaller than the footprint of the mirror would have allowed. My recommendation is to just get aftermarket, and mount the monitor (no more than 5") in the overhead where the glass holder goes. I've done that on my previous Tacoma and it looked really good and out of the way and does not interfere with the original mirror.
