I am running the Dobinson 111-R leafs in the back. Ride great unloaded and still support the weight of the RTT and gear when it's loaded up.

@fatfurious2 might have some insight into this, I know he's owned 497 RTT's. I think he's got a hardshell RoofNest now.

I dont know any other ones besides what he listed, that will fit on a short bed. I have the automatic opening one from FSR. It hangs over my long bed by about 8"

Does hauling the ikamper require a suspension upgrade? Or is the stock leaf pack sufficient enough? I'm just a little 2wd, wont be going anywhere the taco cant get to. Haha

If its just the rtt I wouldn't think so... my ikamper mini is 125lbs. I think the stock suspension would be able to handle that easily.

ikamper(WA), desert armor(AZ), roofnest(CO), and one other manufacturer (iron something maybe?) make the same folding hard shell tent. i thought the main differences were the latches and windows. ladders might be different too, i think the ikampers have tilted feet which seem nice. all the awnings seem pretty similar.

So I will also say... DA is releasing a new hard shell that is the same wedge as Roofnest.. made in the same factory and all... for less. Just throwing that out there.

I guess at some campsites there’s power you can connect to. Otherwise, you might need a generator..?

Hi, nice setup, any reason in particular you went with 3 X-bars vs just 2? Any photos handy with tent deployed, mounted low are you able to use the window canopy on the cab side? I just pulled trigger on the skycamp mini and will also be installing on a retractable bed cover, so I’m especially curious about your setup. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delayed response. I did the 3 yakima bars & 6 brackets on my retrax cover for mainly peace of mind. I do wheel the truck pretty hard and I figured if a bracket or mounting pad broke the tent would still be secure (if that makes sense). Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the tent deployed. Unfortunately I am not able to use the canopy on the cab side... not a big issue for me, I may eventually try and bend or have new poles made to contour around the cab.

No sweat, thanks for getting back to me! Im on the fence using a 3rd crossbar as a failsafe like you, but the tracks on my American Roll Cover are only are only 40" long. Not sure if you were aware but Uptop makes a retrax compatible bed rack incase you ever want to go that way, I wish they made one for mine:m https://www.uptopoverland.com/products/uptop-truss-tacoma-retrax-2005-2020.

If you do find a solution to your canopy let me know what you figure out.

@slowlane, you decide how you are going to mount it yet?

Honestly havent gone that far yet. But my first thought would be theres a local fab shop that does great work. That would be where I head to first unless I see something that I like before then.

Oh wow! Thanks for that info about up Uptop. I will eventually go the bedrack route to gain some more bed usage space. That would be perfect and its aluminum.

before pulling the trigger on an ARE shell I had bought my tacoma with full intention of putting a RTT on it. I have a friend who had an iKamper on a ranger and they let me borrow the truck + tent, it was perfect. Unfortunately their tent hinges got damaged after some ~30mph gusts so they're now going a different route. After that I couldn't stomach the $2500 I'd drop on one.
