    I have a 2014 Tacoma Prerunner 4.0 (2wd) TRD Sport 5sp auto.
I am having a truetrac and 4.11 gears installed in two weeks.
I have read they work very well with the TRD LSD I have.
I plan on staying with my 265/65/17 tires for the street until they wear out will upsize to 265/70/17 street tires.
I have a set of k02 265/70/17 on another set of rims for prospecting in the desert.
Mostly fire road type dirt roads, gravel, some sand and maybe some small mud or crossing a dry river bed. I don't plan on any other mods.
The question I have is will I need the hypertech inline unit to correct shifting of the transmission, (don't want to hit rev limiter while doing spirited driving) because of changing to the 4.11 gears. I have not found much about a gear only change on these trucks. One I found said that the speed is checked by the ABS and gear only change will not effect the speedometer reading or shift points only rpm, but changing tire size on the auto will effect it.
I ordered the hypertech inline 730117 but I can always have them remove it from my parts list if I don't need it and save $220.00, does anyone know for sure about this, no guessing please?

    thanks

nothing with regards to shifting will change. Shifting is all based on driveshaft rpms and accelerator pedal position, not actual speed and completely independent of your final gear ratios.

So just like cruising speed rpms increasing at a specific actual speed (or subsequent drop in actual speed at the same rpms) shifting will occur at slower speeds at the same rpms due to the higher numerical gear ratio (assuming the same amount of throttle pedal input).

The ONLY time you need a speedo changer is if you go taller tire size... and even then it wont effect anything as far as shifting, just indicated speed.

The reason I am checking is I had a 2002 Corvette with 4spd auto and changed the gears from 3:15 to 3:73. It would hit the rev limiter before changing gears until I got a diablo tuner and corrected the gear size, then it worked like it should.

    thanks

So I got the TrueTrac and 4.11 gears installed. So far I love the way the truck drives. Should have been the stock gear for this truck. Still have to finish breaking the gears in before any hard driving, but I will put more about it on this forum later. The truck now climbs small inclines in the road with out unlocking the converter and with out pushing down more on the gas. Over all much more responsive. Right now I still have the stock 265/65/17 tires on the truck but will be putting 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country III tires on soon.
Should work well with the 4.11 gears. Still should have more get up and go than before the gear change. I was going to get the 4.30 gears but I do drive on the freeway some times. I have not been able to find any info on this combo, so I hope it helps some who are on the fence. I checked the speedo with gps and it is still correct. I have not done full throttle runs yet (because of break in of the gears) so I do not know if the shift points will be correct.

From what I've found, your speedo drives off one of the rear wheels, changing the gear will not affect the speedo at all. Changing from a 265/65 to a 265/70 will be appx. 1" taller, speedo should show appx. 2 mph. lo at 60 mph. Showing 60 mph. will be actually 62 mph.

Yep, from what I understand now, is that it uses the ABS sensor for speed. Still not sure yet if the trans shift points will be changed because of the RPM difference. I don't want to hit the rev limit if I am passing.

Just changed out the gear oil this weekend, so far I am loving the 4.11 and truetrac with stock tires. So much so that I might put 265/65/17 tires (open country III) on my other rims for prospecting.
I don't wont any rubbing and the off the line, get up and go is nice. If you have been thinking about this combo, DO IT!
I hope this helps someone on the fence who wants the extra rear traction of the truetrac and the get up and go of the 4.11 gears.

P.S. Don't think I will need to buy the hypertech for the shifting of the trans and speedo is dead on per my gps. I will post back when I do some more wide open runs and see what RPM the transmission shifts at.

Glad it's worked out, always scared of what'e coming if I haven't had a chance to try it out & know what to expect. I don't think you ever mentioned what your orig. OEM gear ratio was.

    Factory 3.73's.

I was thinking of going with 4.30's and put 265/70/17 tires on but think I will stay with the stock 265/65/17 tires.
