I have a lot of motivational talks on cd that I listen to on the way to work. I want a double din, and I do hook up my android to my stereo.

The top picture that I took was when I played the DVD player to test it out and to show it to my friend. The bottom picture is the actual navigation system of the head unit. I also have Apple CarPlay where you plug in the Lightning cable into the USB input on the head unit and it gives you the same display as your iPhone and you can use the Apple Maps, Pandora, iTunes, Stingray Music from your iPhone. You can also load a playlist of music on a memory stick, insert into the USB input jack, and access your music playlist from there. Most people think that Jensen isn’t a high end brand, but for the functions/capability and the price, I’m happy with what I bought. I also have Bluetooth & rear backup camera as well. I had a local auto sound shop do the installation for me since I kept procrastinating on installing the head unit for over a year. I didn’t want to deal with the backup camera or Bluetooth mic installation.

There’s a lot of choices in the audio/video/navigation head units on the car audio market, regardless of what brand it is. It all comes down to what features do you want or need for your vehicle and your budget. Is my Jensen (most people don’t seem to like for whatever reason) head unit the be all, end all? No. Pick whatever works for you and enjoy it! I’m sure happy to be rid of the OEM radio/cassette with cassette adaptor and seperate GPS unit mounted on the window set up that I’ve been using for the last 20 years and felt it was well worth the price to have all of the amenities of my current head unit.

I hear that. I was hoping when I plugged that model # in it was going to be half the price of some of these jvc/sony/alpines people are running. It seems to getting a decent android powered head unit you're going to have to spend $200+ or roll the nice on some of the no name Chinese ones.

I would recommend checking out Crutchfield which is where I bought mine from. They were cool enough to provide the wiring harnesses and instructions for the installation. I also bought the Jensen backup camera for $10 which usually sells for around $50. I plan on buying my speakers from them for my next purpose.

I'd get a kenwood. I've been super happy with mine. I think the Android auto works a little better. I put a big ass Sony XAV-AX8000 in my tundra and I like the display of the kenwood in the Tacoma better. I'd suggest going to bestbuy or a audio shop and finger all of them and see which one that you like the best.i don't think that you could really go wrong now days as long as you go with a name brand. Unless it's a Jensen. Lol J/K
As long as you get the wiring harness it ridiculously easy to put one in a tacoma.

Have you done the speakers yet? I’m still happy with my HU but it’s too easy to over drive the factory speakers.

I don't think the pioneer has Android auto. If that matters.

Yes, the factory speakers do overdrive as they’re not designed to handle the wattage from my new head unit. I haven’t decided on which speakers or have ordered them yet. I don’t care much for the OEM factory speakers that are in the truck since I have my new head unit, but I’ll dial them to sound as good as possible until I get my new speakers ordered and installed. Thanks for asking.

I used a cheap $20 license plate camera. It mounts behind the license plate and is extremely low profile. I chose this design because I didn’t want to drill into anything and didn’t want anything to hide the name of the State because I have been pulled over for that in the past. The wiring was easy, but time consuming due to the fishing. I ran it underneath the bed and it pops into the cabin using the grommet underneath the driver seat. I didn’t have to remove the seat to access the grommet. For the power wiring I fed it into the driver side reverse tail light and used PosiTaps to make it easy for me. 392E756C-C125-4058-BCDD-5E04DD459C87.jpg

Great thread. Has anyone modified their console to move the double din higher? Swap position of the climate control with head unit
