Lol, you know it! Actually though, if I was to draw air in rather than blow it out the flask would cease being a flask and would quickly become a hunk that we call "art glass" to make ourselves feel better about the failure lol.

 

I’ve made a bunch of progress on my bumper rebuild and will snap some pics tomorrow.

 

Love me an erlenmeyer flask, been my favorite since Jr. High! Keep posting, it's really cool.

Thanks! I should've included a photo of a completed flask as well since you can see nothing but glare in that photo lol. I've found it pretty gratifying that in general people find scientific glassware and glassblowing interesting, because i certainly do. I hope some of you welders are lucky enough to feel genuinely excited about the things you get to make at work, because i feel lucky to have a job i have a real interest in doing. Id do it in my off time if I could afford the equipment, for sure.

 

Trying to chip away at the rock slider orders. Made a little progress today. Only 19 more sets to build.

Whoa.. that looks dope. I made a cage for my old TJ after my shift hours and on weekends for a little bit. Also made front and rear bumpers, steering box skid, sliders, two different versions and a hand full of winch bumpers and stingers for peeps. I miss it but I don’t necessarily miss having to have multiple sets of clothes to change into so I didn’t get my truck dirty on my way home...


I made a half cage at first... you can see the difference in pic 3. The full cage I built was one of my greatest welding achievements.. I built it on my own, bent it on my own, no measurements, no help, I took with with a crane. I loved that Jeep.... Also... I wasn’t old enough to drink yet... man, if I was I am sure it wouldn’t have come out so good.. LOL

I love fabrication of any kind. I really wish my 2wd had any hope of seeing some trails so I could justify owning some of your sliders.

 

That means a lot man. I’ve built quite a few sets for 2wd guys haha. So never say never lol

 

Kind of crummy pictures but i whipped up this mount for my water/meth injection tank and pump on my crawler last night. tank hangs of existing 1/4" battery tray and pump is off to the side. After I build the mount for the tank, I read the install instructions which state the pump needs to be mounted below the reservoir. Hoping this helps it run cooler/better under WOT.

 

I welded up some more parts for a customer yesterday, thought I'd show them. All thats left to do is grind the weld smooth then the whole part gets sandblasted. One way glass differs from metal (i think) is that when you heat it it creates strain within the part that weakens it greatly. The way we fix that is by annealing it in an oven which heats the whole part up evenly, removing the strain.

I can’t wait to move and get a real shop, but I’m grateful I have some place to call a shop.

Uphill is hard man! I haven’t practiced it any, but my uphill beads are shit.

 

You ever make a prince Rupert drop?

 

No I have not, the principal reason being that I've never heard of anyone making one out of the material I know how to use (fused Quartz). I could bore you by telling you the differences in properties between this glass and that glass, but suffice it to say I'm almost certain it would not be possible. I understand its quite easy to do with borosilicate glass though, you just heat up a wad of it and let it drip into water. Id love to try someday.
