Camper Brake Light Wiring

Hello TW,

I recently picked up a Snugtop Camper and I am trying to wire the brake light but have zero experience with any wiring.

The camper is okay for my purposes, has a brake light but not sure if it works.

The camper has two sets of wires, one pair is black and white (which is from the dome light), the other pair is a red and black/red. The truck has a pair of black and white coming out near the tailgate on driver side. Hoping to have ya’lls expertise with wiring. Appreciate your time.

You can splice the wire with your rear brake lights. You only need to do it to one side of your brake lights because when you hit the brakes, your sending a message to the truck electrical system to put power into the rear brake lights. Whatever wires are running on the brake lights, will get current and then your brake light for your topper will be working. There’s also videos on this on YouTube. So check those out as well. The two blacks are grounds (one for the brake light, one for the topper light).
The red is the power for the brake light.
The white is the power for the topper light.

I suggest using a 4pin trailer harness (only using three of the pins) for a nice easy quick disconnect when you remove the topper. I just wired my Snugtop Super Sport a couple of weeks ago:

 

Always double check with your Meter 12 VDC

 

make sure to find where those wires are connected to that are coming out of the bed. they may or may not be for tail light/stop light. connect to the correct ones to make sure no blown fuses
