It just occurred to me why I don't have an issue with living under the umbrella of my HOA.

I grew up and spent most of my career living in base housing. If you can handle base housing, an HOA is easy.

We had an E7 in our squadron when I was stationed at NAS Jax that lived in base housing with his dependapottamus. He got kicked out after the housing maintenance came in to replace something in the house and reported that it was so filthy there were mushrooms growing in one corner of the living room carpet. No one believed it until pictures surfaced. Straight nasty.

Back in my pre-NCO days I lived in the new dorm style barracks while going through RSS/AW school at Pensacola. My roommate was a dirtbag. There was a well defined filth line that separated his side of the room from mine. Dude never washed his bedding and there wasn't enough air fresheners around to quell the B.O. smell from his nastiness. Finally got assigned to a new room after 3 failed inspections and multiple requests to be moved.

Edit: Same guy, failed out of AW/RSS and got sent to the fleet unrated. He ended up being a blue shirt on the JFK flight deck and was on the boat when my squadron deployed. He got sent home halfway through deployment after an uncontrollable scabies outbreak occurred in his berthing area and they traced it back to him.

We had a guy like that. NO ONE would room with him. Never showered, always grimy, etc. I happened to walk into his room one time and his sheets were a dark grey they were so dirty. Our sheets were white. He was a weird dude, always thought he was a serial killer TBH.
When we were stateside we were out of NAS Norfolk and Little Creek. Since I was never married I got the BEQ and had the same dorm style you are talking about, they were actually pretty damn nice. Galley was right there and the food was pretty damn good, they had their shit meals of course which I would skip or go out to eat, but for the most part I ate in the galley.
Had the same roommate for the whole time we were back, we are still friends, he was a neat freak like me. We had a killer setup, we always only had just the 2 of us and they always had us in 4 man rooms so we would pay one of the BEQ TAD guys to take out the 2 extra racks and we moved in barcaloungers, TV, fridge, etc. We were pretty spoiled. Then again that was only while stateside which consisted of maybe a year of the 5 I did. Overseas, it was Quonset huts and shitty conditions that most of you would know about (except the AF guys ).
You can keep that boat bunking though, that shit sucked the 4 weeks I was on a fucking carrier. Fucking racks were like a coffin, godamn catapult thwapping constantly, everything tasted like JP 5, showers sucked, utterly miserable existence.

Sounds awfully familiar. His last name wasn't Lax was it?

    Little Creek? Teams guy?

Hahahahahahahaha. 3 carrier deployments were enough for me. We did get to do the Sea Trials on the Truman and because the boat was min crew for sea trials and the squadron berthing areas weren't furnished yet, the helo crew all got staterooms.

Those types are way more common than they should be. I've worked with two of that that I was aware of. Both had to have someone watch them shower to ensure they used soap.

We had a guy like that in our tech school training, oldest 18yr old we knew...we were 18 also but he acted like he was in his 70's. We had to get instructors to make him take a shower. We were there at least a month and he didnt own a bar of soap, shampoo, tooth brush or toothpaste. Never showered up to that point. He'd wear old spice as an "instead of shower"...:puke:

Ugh, another shop had a guy on deployment that had to have an NCO supervise him take a shower. I kicked him off the bus to the flight line once or twice. Smelled like trash, ass, and dirty socks.

No, I wasnt in the teams but we worked so closely with them that I may as well have been....if thats even possible. I really enjoyed when they would come with us on certain missions, we always got better gear when they did, and it pushed the other guys on my end that much harder to not be the pussy of the mission. We got to get to know a bunch of them really well. They showed up at Rosy Rds one time when we were there and we had a beach party, got drunk as skunks, then two of them decided to swim to across the bay and back, same thing in Cuba. Fuckers were a bit off sometimes.
It started out that they would come with us as jungle training for them and they had such a blast it became fun training for them and were regularly scheduled into them. I mean, who doesnt want to call in a C130 with twin gat's sticking out the side and blow up a coke lab with it in a South American mountain/jungle?
