I’m thinking of getting a truck camper which will require my tailgate coming off when in use. I’d like to move the camera to my license plate bracket. And or get another camera. Has anyone done so and how did you wire it up? Would like to keep existing wires to reconnect when I’m not running the camper.

I was just in my tailgate putting in a lock actuator, and I had the back up camera completely disconnected to run the cable for the lock with it. Where it plugs in behind the bumper all the way to the camera is one run and is easily removed, so I dont see why you couldn't just move the camera down and use the wiring from the tailgate.

You can just cut and splice into the three wires if you need to extend it. No need for an expensive ass plug and play kit unless you aren’t even slightly handy with wire cutters and crimps.
