So I have had an after market charging port I ordered off Amazon for over a year.
I purchased it because I was tired of using the one that adapted to the cig lighter.
When I would use the cig lighter for other stuff I would find it rolling around my truck later.
Plus something about having that lighter cover always flipped up bugged me but (that’s a deeper issue)
The reason I have had it so long without installing is I am a little lazy and removing that much of the dash just to add a USB port to one of the centre blank spots was not something I was looking forward too.
    I found an easier way!
You can pry the cig lighter out from the front using a skinny small screw driver and working your way around the black trim ring until it pops out.
It’s not easy at first and it felt like it might break but if take your time it comes out with no damage.
This allows an easy spot to access the blank and the place to tap power from.

Few of photos of the before during and after

What about the USB port thats to the left of it? Seems kinda redundant (unless you're using that one too)

That one is useless for charging a phone.

I wish my off road would have had it as an option (Canadian version) may put one in later.

It may charge also but it would take a long time.

No I put those on to connect to the factory plug
I can’t bring myself to cut factory connections off
You can see the female yellow ones at the bottom of the homemade harness for the cig lighter connections.

So I did something very similar to this one and used the purple(+) and white/black (+) stripe terminals/wires to connect to the back of the usb plugs

Just a note if you need it in the future. There are two square clips on the black outlet covers that lock into the metal barrel. One top and one bottom. You can see the one on the bottom inside the barrel. If you push them outward just a scosche with a pick tool, the cover slides off.
