Tucson Trails

howdy guys, i just started getting in offroading with the purchase of my tacoma. i have a 4x4 sport on the stock OR 16s / goodyear tires. i plan on getting falken wildpeaks in the near future, and i've really been wanting to hit some trails near / around Tucson. i've been through Reddington a handful of times but sadly haven't been able to get to the control road up mt. Lemmon with the bighorn fire going on. what are some good trails you guys recommend?

 

Welcome to Tacoma World, open up your wallet You're not too far from the Chiricahua Mountains, there are lots of trails on and around that range. If you want to camp, there are high elevation sites there too.

 

I can already feel my wallet hurting just from the mods I've got in my head lmao. thanks for the recommendation man, any trails there in particular there you'd suggest?

 

Since your coming from Tucson, the West side has the National Park and is free entrance and well worth the drive to the top. Once you come back down and past the gate there is a gravel road off to your left.

This road takes you up and over the range to the town of Portal near the New Mexico border. Great camping area along the whole way and good food in restaurant in Portal. If you leave out of Portal and go into NM and follow the road south towards Douglas there is another path up over the range heading you back towards Tucson. I cannot recall the Forest Service roads atm.

South Pinery Canyon Road is the route over the Chiricahuas that take you to Portal.

Continue past Portal to Route 80 in New Mexico near the town of Rodeo. Head south back into Arizona to Tex Canyon Road. This takes you back up over the range to the west side.
