I think as the trucks have gotten bigger in size people expect "full size" V8 performance. My buddy had an early 2000s F150 NA V6, that thing was a dog compared to his later model V8 or his other ecoboost V6

Yeah its got kind of crazy. My neighbor back in the 90's had a single-cab long bed chevy with a 4.3 V6. It had roughly ~160 HP and 230 ft-lbs. He pulled a 17 ft boat with it, did construction work on the weekends, it was fine.

People's expectations are just out of whack these days I guess.

EDIT: Or better worded - people think they need way more than they do. Thats why you see an F250 pulling an aluminum jon boat.

I think you nailed it on "people's expectations are just out of whack these days".

Taco has almost 300 hp and 265 tq, i think its plenty to get around just fine...

I came from a 4.0 ranger with 207 hp and 236 tq i believe, never really had a lack of power complaint. The only time was when i was driving for 8 hrs on the mountain passes, it got tired at high altitude.

Taco felt like a rocket when i first drove it, haha.

    So much truth here.

I had to listen to a bunch of parents complaining about how their high school senior children didn’t have prom and graduation/ parties, and how unfair...bla bla bla.

I was thinking of my dad and uncle who enlisted right out of high school and got all expense paid trips to Europe (WWII).

Back to Tacoma- how in the world does Toyota expect to brake safely with rear drums?

Yeah. People are just impatient I guess. I got passed earlier today when I went out to get a burrito simply because I wasn't going fast enough leaving a stop light. Like, really? The next light is red dude...

Thats how 90% of drivers are here... so fucking impatient its nuts. If you take more than couple seconds to get moving on a green light, you definetily will get a honked at and get a finger. I think vancouver has some of the worst drivers in the world. No road etiquette what so ever, quite sad.

If those parents had any real desire to do something, they'd figure out a way to make it special. But complaining is easier.

I'm not sure, I've never actually witnessed a third gen stopping. For a I know, you're all posting here from your trucks, nobody willing to admit that they can't stop for fear of ridicule from the Nissan forums

My neighbor has one. Replaced the frame, two engines, three transmissions, four water pumps, new bed, new interior, five suspensions, all new electrical, 280k miles, running like a champ.

So basically he rebuilt the whole truck like 3 times by now, haha!

All that work seems to be a bit excessive for 280k miles though.

    POS toyota trucks.. .

Its about right if you're using it to haul gravel because you can't afford a Peterbilt.

My real point is everyone bitches about the new trucks but the older trucks needed work, too. Not to mention no power, no space, loud as shit, rust to hell, etc.

Now where is the tongue in cheek emoticon?

You mean like dump trucks, concrete trucks, city buses, 18 wheelers, school buses...............

Wait till the complainers figure out how unsafe the heavy stuff is.

Don't get me wrong. I like disc brakes for several reasons. I'd even say they'd be nice on the rear of the Tacoma for ease of servicing if nothing else. But I can manage to put up with servicing my drums every 100k or so. I'm so old I may never get them worn out. :anonymous: :D
