I recently purchased a 2016 Tacoma with a 6’ bed, but the deck rails had been removed for whatever reason. I searched all over the internet with no luck for finding them, and the dealerships have said they have to come factory installed on the truck bed. So my question is - will the 2015 deck rails fit the 2016 bed? Or are there any aftermarket options? I’m not having any luck.

Yeah, I saw those. But they are all for the tundra, which has a longer bed, 6.5 ft, I think. For the Tacoma, I have only found 2nd gen deck rails, which is why I am wondering if they will work. Or maybe I could mod the tundra rails...

Talking about the metal utility rails?

My bad, you are correct, and I'm not certain of the answer. That is odd that 3rd gen tacoma rails aren't more easily available. 2nd gen rails seem likely compatible, but it would be nice to hear from someone that knows for sure.

Not 100% but to my knowledge the only difference in 2nd vs 3rd gen beds are the height and top width. I'm sure more folks will chime in at some point.

Yep, the side rails on the inside of the bed.

Hmm... maybe I’ll order a set & see if they work. If they don’t, I can always try to send them back or sell them on eBay.

I've heard of guys here on TW using superstrut or unistrut for bed rack components and painting them black. You may want to look at that as a cheaper alternative. They are larger than stock Toyota rails but the spring nuts fit them without having them ground down to fit. You can see the different section profiles at...

... but HD, at least our HD, only carries 1-5/8 square and 1-5/8 x 13/16.

They look the same from what i can tell. The rail cleats look the same
Not sure about mounting holes but try and look up the part number for the 2nd and 3rd gen and if they match most likely they are the same
