    This is a good discussion. Mostly it comes down to what you are using it for, and know that it is just a mitigation.

    Home defense from a late night caller ? Eh.

    Home or business defense from looting? Yeah it'll deter people.

    What it really comes down to is the box. If you are looking into actually purchasing armor do alot of research before you buy.

    For example technically ceramic plates have a shelf life. Can crack from impact (drop or fall) more susceptible to environmental (like lighter weight POLY compounds I think have a 10 year expectancy)

    Steel is heavier. Much heavier. But they don't have a shelf life. Can be dropped. Less expensive.

    Also just one last thing when it comes to armor velocity is king. If you don't know what I mean, a 55 grain steel core penetrator (good xm193 and a slew of others) can go through a 1/4 plate at 600 yards out of a 20" barrel.

    Edit: correction it was 1/4 inch helmet at the time so shitty steel worn by some circa 1950/60s foreign countries.
