Whelp. You all were right! I got my SiverSky Tacoma Sport 2WD in December and I said I just wanted a couple of small things. Most of TW warned me this forum would make me want to spend money, and it’s happening. All these sweet looking trucks on here and I keep saying “ohh I like that”! I added a roof rack, and a tonneau cover, and I love the look of my truck now.

I’m now considering a spacer lift (which I think is frowned upon). I’m still doing my homework, but I do like the appearance of a LITTE lift and larger wheels. Is 18” wheels considered the bro lift? I really do like the look but function is important too. I don’t have a 4x4 but I do enjoy some nice trails and some of you said I could still get a little dirty in 2WD.

I’ve been communicating with the nice guys at SWAT Customs in Fremont and trying to nail down all the lift options with wheels and tires. They sent me to this site and there is so much to consider.

I guess I’m trying to nail down a comfortable lift plus larger wheels and tires, that still function for some trail fun. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. I’m sure I’m not factoring in some things. Thanks TW NORCAL!!

18" references the size of the wheel, not the height of a lift.

also check out Scheafers in Alameda. No experience directly with Swat. I know several who started with them then used other shops.

If search on the lift options you will get recommended for starter setups would be bilstein setups with an add a leaf or ideally new leaf pack. Not much experience with toytec but it will do the trick. for function 16 or 17" wheels. If you want bigger but not too big then 255/80/17 or 285/70/17 (if going 17) or 255/85/16 or 285/75/16 are the common bigger options. without being small or not too big. 18's will def put you in the mall crawl section of trucks and less about off road (not saying you cant bet less tire for offroad use)

Thanks for chiming in. Yeah I got that part. I was just wondering if 18” wheel still had good function cause I liked the look, but another poster just said that ventured into the mall crawler arena lol.

    Thanks again!

I rock 18" wheels because they were on the truck when I bought it, and I didn't want to have to buy a new set when I jumped to 34" tires.
With the trail rash they have, they're certainly not mall-crawler rated anymore. I get shit for running 18" wheels from time to time, but I still air them down to 8psi when needed, and they work for me.
I also have a ~3" suspension lift, and a bunch of other supporting mods, and I actually take this truck off pavement.

I'll steer clear of the lift conversation, as that always seems to end in a DF and/or BH, but my suggestion is to research A LOT before purchasing, and have your end-goal in mind.

Thank you for the time and all the helpful information. I will reach out to Alameda today and see about the starter kits with new leaf packs. I’m sure these guys can help. Thank you for getting me in the right direction!

Sure thing you can also check with headstrong, downsouth, filthy motorsports etc on suspension setups then have the shop install but locally they are a good bet and decent availability.

Oh cool. Do you have any picture that you can share? Yeah I will tell the shop what my goals are and I’m sure they can get me set-up for my needs. Thank you!

Oh wait... what is DF and BH?? Hahahaha sorry I’m still getting familiar. I finally understand backspacing and offsets. Learning all the lingo.

A trip to San Diego sounds fun! I’ve been watching videos from 88 Rotors in El Monte.

These threads are so awesome. I’ve been learning a lot about my truck. I’ll keep digging. I was reading through so many and got a bit overwhelmed or distracted lol. I really think your reply got me in the direction I was looking for.

Bro lift is when the nose ends up notably higher than the rear.

You have a Prerunner. Call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and ask about the @ChadsPride special.

Just remember that all choices you make compromise something else. Like MPG, potential alignment issues, more expensive tires, tires that become noisy, etc.

Of course that's all fine as long as you are aware and make a your choice with those things in mind.

Take your time. Pick for function for how you use the truck 90% of the time and you'll enjoy the process and the results

Thank you! Why would anyone want the nose of the truck higher? Not being snotty, but curious on the benefits or is it just looks?

Also, I wondered about the Prerunner thing. I asked my dealer that this morning when I took my Taco in for an oil change. He said it is not a prerunner even though it’s 2WD.

I didn’t see the rest of your message sorry. That’s great advice. Function first and enjoy the process. It’s been great so far. I’m so happy every time I get in my truck. It’s made me more adventurous. The best vehicle during all this SIP and quarantine. Found so many new places to hike, run, beach, and bike.

AFAIK it's looks. Maybe functional for actual desert racers? Very popular in certain locals though. Like Hawaii.

I'm not fully up on 3rd gen models/packages, so it may well no longer be called a Prerunner. But you have 6 lugnuts, so the basic underpinnings are quite similar to the 4wd version, sit the same ht from the factory, etc etc.

Regardless, Marie is the person to call to get you all fixed up.
