Yeah, welcome to Colorado. You need to make at least 100k to live here comfortably (Own a home and a new Tacoma). Otherwise paycheck to paycheck. The Californians (no offense) moved here, raised the prices on all the real estate, and then our road infrastructure needs to be funded to expand with everyone else moving here. That is where your tag money goes and it used to be around $150 5 years ago. The worst part is the out of staters throw their trash everywhere. Every 4x4 trip, I carry an extra trash bag and fill it up as I go on my trips. IT's almost impossible to go skiing on the weekend, plan on 2 1/2 hours in traffic to go skiing now instead of 30 minutes 5 years ago. It's very sad..

Question: for you folks down in North Mexico, does the “tag” or “plate” fee all you need to be legal or do you have mandatory insurance requirements as well?

Worked for me. We bought a foreclosure in 2012. I just sold and got more in equity than I paid for the house to start with. Basically it doubled it price.

But yeah there's too many morons on public land that have no business there.

Move to Wyoming. Mines in in the 5-600 range to as a 2018! They go off the orgininal sticker price here no matter how old it is :frusty::frusty::frusty: So my 2002 dodge goes off of $36,000 sticker price and my 2002 Tacoma goes off of $32,000. Not sure how that makes any sense...

It was $182 to renew the tags (good for two years) on our 4Runner this month in Oregon. Not terribly high, but we also have high income tax and property taxes. As others have mentioned, they'll get it one way or another. (Not that I think those fees/taxes shouldn't be paid.)

I just paid $432 in Calif for my 2017, which includes $40 for personalized plates. However, if I didn't change the body type to "PM", I would be paying $80 more for commercial plates!

As a native, you hit the nail on the head. I'm currently looking at states to move to outside of Colorado. I love this state but it's getting too expensive but it's hard trying to find a place where I'd be happy.

Depending what town you live in here in connecticut, the mill rate for property tax can be very far from cheap.

Has been a value based system for some years now. Last one for me was $202 plus $5 fee. Optional State Park Rec Pass is $11. Standard Plate for me.

$64 a year here in PA but then again sales tax on a new one is in the $2,400 range.

I wish Maine was value-based. I remember registering a 15 year old Saab. 0.4% of MSRP (39k) so $220 with fees and whatnot. They say it goes to the local roads, except I live on a private road that runs into a state road.

OooooOOOOoo, I didn't get into sales tax. There's 5.5% on new or used, but that's only when you buy it or register it the first time. I bought a new car in NH once and paid roughly 2400 to register that the first year.

When I lived in Colorado, ski tickets where $35 at Vail, Eisenhower tunnel was just completed, gas was .50$, there was no traffic at n the mountains. Me and my motorcycle friends used to go real fast outside of Boulder in the canyons, what a shame.
