Hello, first post here. My truck is a 2006 tacoma prerunner 4.0l with 222,000 miles. I’ve been having intermittent power loss issues for over a year now but it’s now become permanent and needs fixed. When it started I thought it was my transmission, I hit the throttle 3/4 or more and it feels like it shifts into neutral before accelerating. But when I shift manually it still acts up in the same gear. It doesn’t clunk into gear either it gradually accelerates after a few seconds. I just recently got a CEL and it was p0430, cleared it and it hasn’t come back after 1000 miles. I’m not even sure the p0430 has anything to do with it cause the cel doesn’t stay on and it still acts up. I’m hoping someone else has had similar issues but I haven’t found much at this point. I put an air filter in, oil change, iridium spark plugs and the old plugs looked fine. I’ll probably try and swap 02 sensors from each bank if they’re reversible. Also clean the throttle body and maf. Let me know what you guys think, thanks.

Edit: I should add it seems like the problem is the cats or cat is plugged but it still is intermittent. After I cleared the code it accelerated normally for a few hours then back to power loss.

Yes I can’t say I’ve noticed it much lately though. It would rattle or shutter when accelerating since I’ve had the truck. I think that may be a ujoint in the driveline but I need to take another look.

With 222k miles along with a CEL code P0430 pointing to an O2 sensor issue, I would start with replacing the sensor. Eventually that code will return when the sensor completely fails.

Edit: go with Denso brand sensors.

dont do what I did. I replaced my cats without trying to clean them. The aftermarkets are not as good as the OEM stuff. On my truck with 230 plus miles, i have replaced intake gaskets, plugs, coils, cats, o2 sensors , air fuel sensor and valve cover. I ended up using the spacers on the sensors after cats. which stopped all check engine (p0420/p0430). It has been a journey, but that truck does not run like it has over 230,000 miles, it starts right up, idles smoothly. Oh, can I changed the maf too.
