Just had a mechanic buddy replace my steering rack and pinion assembly on 2009 Tacoma.
    (leaking hose)

    Drove home last night.
Had an alignment booked this morning.

Steering was way off. But we knew that.

ABS would kick on and essentially grind the truck to a halt.

Held down the traction control button for 10 secs.
Get a small icon on the dash.

The ABS (I think) will take over but then a second square traction symbol appears above the first one.

    Both lights ON. Drives great.

Turn them off...get about 100m if I am lucky.

Hoped it might be resolved after my alignment.

    But it was not.

    Are we missing something?

Maybe a sensor or wire was damaged when removing the old rack.

Any ideas or experiences great appreciated!

    Thanks.

If the wheel is way off, the VSC can think you’re trying to turn when your not and can activate to help ‘correct’. It does it by activating the ABS on any wheel.

    Hey, Yeh kind of...

Well... I never actually see the ABS light.

But that's the sensation. Because I've experienced ABS come on in snow etc.

But when I turn off the traction control, the problem stops. And there I sometimes see "VSC auto" appear on the dash...

I read about that zero calibration thing of the VSC in other posts. All makes sense that it needs reset.

The trick with the length of wire.. Would a paperclip work?

Are you not at risk of frying anything?

My buddy has a snap on diagnostics reader.
Is that good enough to use for the process.

You essential have to wipe the memory then set it again on a flat surface with wheel straight?

Thank you for taking the time to reply with that link Tcshooter!
