2013 Tacoma Prerunner DC TRD Sport - Spruce Mica
    Hello Everyone,

My name is John. I have been on this forum for over year I think, checking out info about 2nd gen Tacoma. I had owned a 1996 Access Cab 4wd, with a 4 banger and 5-spd manual for a while.

Well, I purchased a 2013 Tacoma Prerunner from my Dad about a month ago. My Dad purchased it brand new in 2013 in Las Vegas. It is a TRD Sport Spruce Mica double cab. About 3 years ago, my Dad could no longer drive because he could not pass his eye exam for his license. So his Tacoma sat for about 3 years; he had about 4100 miles on it when he last drove it. He did have his friend take it out a few times over the years to keep things lubricated and had the oil changed twice a year.

I think he was holding onto it for the last 3 years hoping that he could find a doctor to correct his vision so he could drive again. Unfortunately that has not come to pass.

About a year ago, I visited my Dad to talk about everything going on (he has Parkinson's as well). He mentioned he was going to sell his Tacoma, and he had stuff he needed to give to me since he could no longer use them because of his disease and sight. Being sentimental about things, I offered to buy his Tacoma so I could keep it in the family. I am a car/truck enthusiast so having my Dad's Tacoma has meaning to me.

Because of my work schedule and other uncontrollable forces (COVID-19) I hadn't been able to fly to Vegas to pick up my Dad's Tacoma (I live in VA). Yes, I could of had it transported, but there was other "stuff" my Dad was giving me that required me to haul it back. I finally made it out to Vegas earlier this month to pick up his Tacoma. My family and I drove it back from Vegas to Northern VA this past week. We stopped by Moab on the way back with it (no type of offroading with it unfortunately) and drove it through the Rockies (with a trailer).

It was pretty bittersweet leaving with his Tacoma; I really wanted him to be able to keep his truck. But at the same time, it is my Dad's truck and I really did not want him selling to someone else. I know some folks might be like "it is just a Tacoma". But for me, it is my Dad's truck and I wanted to keep that part of him (if that make sense).

    John

Welcome to TW. It is your father's legacy. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I got a little emotinal reading it. It will bring back fond memories everytime you get into that truck. A nice touch might be to put a small plaque or something similiar on the glovebox as a reminder.
