Has anyone come across a quick replacement for this underpowered USB port on the front? I know I can "just" (four letter word) use a cig lighter unit, but it would be kind of nice to have a port that puts out more amps if you know what I mean. Like 1.5 or 2.

See photos below of my setup and output amps into the phone.

That USB is to connect a thumb drive or iPod for playing music through the stereo. The two in the center console are for charging.

Not super simple, but it should do what you want.

Remove the radio, unplug the USB from the radio and plug in this adapter
    https://www.amazon.com/PAC-USB-TY1-...4839555&sprefix=toyota+usb+ada,aps,178&sr=8-3
The USB port will now have a normal usb end on it inside the dash.
Next you need to get one of these
    https://www.amazon.com/Ginsco-Charg...keywords=usb+car+socket&qid=1594839624&sr=8-6

Plug the adapter into it and wire it to 12v switched power from the fuse box.

Your USB port will now be a 2.1 amp charge port, but it will no longer allow you to connect it to the radio.

If you do the Garmin mini dash cam install and order a 12-pin dongle so the camera draws power off your mirror, you can get yourself a dang 'ole car 2-usb 2.1 cigarette charger for free, by way of ordering the dash cam mini:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/well-that-was-an-easy-dash-cam-install.650486/

Or I can mail you a cigarette charger if youre not trying to spend any money, I have several laying around.

A note, dont get the dongle on Amazon. Contact the seller directly and it'll save you a few bucks. He's a good guy and gave me a heads up

It's just hot glued down in a couple spots. Nothing fancy, it only took 30 seconds to do.

How many of you plugged your phone into it BEFORE finding this information out then had your 17yo lawn technition finding out you can install pics on your dash display? Then attempting said installation finding the USB cannot be found BY the display THEN swapping out USB port with another Tacoma getting it to work?

Ok no big deal I need a new USB port in my dash I call the stealership to find out there $147.86 FUCK THAT SHIT!!!
then calling a friend that USED to work at a dealer telling me

"if you plug in ANYTHING besides a device to play your music into it.......it dies"

Where the hell did I miss this memo?

On mine, it is needed to get Android Auto to work. But I have noticed it puts out enough current to keep the phone topped off (on long trips). There is the wireless charging pad in the cubby below. The wife always hogs up that one. I have a 21 TRD Pro, so I don't know what is in the other models. My 2018 Tundra TRD Sport doesn't have enough power for charging so I do use the one in the center console, or the charging pad I added on a mod for that truck. Again, the wife hogs that up when we ride around in that one too.

Lol, OP gets the answer in the first reply and promptly ignores it in lieu of spending more money on something he knows will break.

Of course if he's powering something on the dash then that could have been more clear from the get go. Read your owner's manual kids.

2017 doesnt have usb ports in the center console.... 2016-2018 only has the one on the dash for the radio, the rest of our ports are just normal 12v outlets...

read your manuals, but make sure your reading the manual for the correct year.
