Does anybody know how the Vat (I think that's what it's called) that is adjustable and supports the bottom spring in the coilover tower is attached to the shock?
I can't find anything on that. Fat Bob's is apparently too busy to ask a tech.
I need to replace the shock and want to use the adjustable VAT off of the Fat Bob's Garage shock, instead of the black bottom retainer Bilstein provides for the 5100's TIA

Pretty sure these are a knock off of the Toytec adjustable coilovers that utilize Bilstein 5100 shocks. The threaded aluminum sleeve slides over the shock body and rests on the 5100's adjustment clip. I believe for this application, it is recommended that the clip be used on the bottom-most groove in the shock body. If the assembly has been in use for a while, like the one in the picture suggests, dirt tends to build up between the shock body and the sleeve effectively seizing the two together. Some penetrating oil and a dead blow hammer will get them apart.
