for what it’s worth I wasn’t interested at that price either :anonymous:, but I’m happy to join their wheeling events.

mappingNH is also a great perk of ENH. Most of the class 6 roads in NH are all labeled via google earth.

How many runs did you go on before you applied for mappingNH? I think I meet all their qualifications just haven’t done the application yet.

It helps to know someone and have them give the powers that be on ENH a nudge. I name dropped @ecgreen and a few other ENH guys I had gone on recent trips with.

And i concur with @jjsul , mapping NH is sweet and worth getting.

Incase anyone wanted to see what Old Florida Rd was like, a majority of this video I made from a few weeks ago is OFR.

Ooof, those ledges. As I was watching I was thinking what tree I'd put my winch to. Still, makes me want to try this though...

Seth is correct. It is also true that things are getting more exclusive on who is let into the Mapping project - for better or worse. Come on some runs and get to know people and keep applying and eventually the powers that be (of which I am not one, but I can be helpful in this respect) will give you permission. If you really want access, tell them you will plan and lead some runs. It is worth getting involved, as they do a great job.

Some people get upset about not being given access, and I get it. However, the guys over at ENH put a ton of unpaid man hours into that project and it really is there right to do whatever they want with it. The basic idea is that they are afraid that if the wrong people get a hold of it, they will exploit the resource by being jerks on the trail or selling the information (both of which have happened). Even so, I have my own opinions, which I won't share here lol.

Here is my suggestion in the meantime: Get one of these, or one like it -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/194649416X?th=1&psc=1

All of the roads that we wheel on in NH are open to everyone. There is no set of secret roads up here. Any Gazetteer will have Class VI roads in it. Just look for the dotted lines or the roads that say 4WD. Get out and explore that's how I started up here. If there is no sign that says stay off the road, then you are allowed to drive down it, even if it goes through someones yard or driveway; which some of them do.

I will say this, many towns have what is called a 'mud season' where you are asked to stay off the class VI roads. This is often not posted on the roads themselves. You can contact the individual towns to find out their dates. A safe bet is to stop using the roads on Dec 1st and Start using them on June 1st. That covers almost all towns.

Also, a Dunkin' Donuts gift card placed in the mailbox of people who live at the entrances and exits to these roads with a note saying thanks is a good idea every now and then!

For those who use Gaia GPS. Which map layer do you use the most to find some of these Class VI in NH and Class IV in VT? I know the MVUM layer is used for the forest service areas. Thanks

Thanks. Still learning what each of the layers is showing. I'm finding many of these trails are designated as hiking and walking trails only and no so much driveable roads

That's just part of it. Even forest roads are missed marked all the time. Green mountain Forrest is a huge culprit of that.

Neotreks is my go to. It's been the best for me. I still X reference it to make sure. A lot of the times I'll use the private land Pape to see if there's a split in properties for right of way.

Compare the dashed unmaintained road lines to the yellow parallel lines here. It's a good example.

Where in NH? Right now I am stock with 31s, I assume Class VI is a bit much for me?

Depends on the road. A lot of them are passable with a stock truck, a lot are decidedly not.

I'm in plymouth, just looking to check out areas +/- 30 min away.

Some class IV are passable stock. Some are not.

I guess I assumed Class VI was a difficulty rating, is that not correct?
