As I've asked in a previous thread:

If you had only $20,000 to buy a Tacoma with off-Roading capability, what year and model trim would you buy?

I'd preferably like to do no more than basic maintenance.

Welcome to TW. I believe you can find a decent taco for 20k but you will need patience to find an older model with lower miles or newer model with high miles. In either case I would want to see maintenance records. It also depends on what type of off roading you plan on doing. Any Tacoma 4wd is very capable for most average off road treks. Just keep in mind with the off-road you get the locking diff.

    Thanks for the replies, guys!

Weirdly enough, I found a really awesome 2015 Tacoma today with good maintenance history. I'm going to check it out and see if it's right for me.

Welcome to TW! Probably going to be a 2nd Gen with 80-100k miles. Check the frame for rust.
