Using a kitchen paring knife I cut a slit in the big gromet where the hood release cable goes threw, I also had a 3ft section of rebar standing in a corner, I ground a point on one end, pushed it threw the hole I had(to enlarge the hole) I taped the RCA end to the rebar with black electrical tape, pushed it threw the grommet, unwrapped the black tape, and I was there. going threw the passenger side and and having to take apart the glove box was just more than I wanted to do, there are several U tube videos on this install, I can only urge you to review them all, some are better than others.

 

So if we buy the new kit do we need anything extra? Y’all making it seem complicated.

 

@Notcris Everything you need is in the kit to make it work, I bought the shorter cable because I am a "neat freak" and didn't want to have all that extra cable to deal with.

I was able to pack the extra cable in a space to the left of the MFD so no extra wire is anywhere visible.

That's an idea people can use if they do not want or do not have the shorter cable.

 

I got mine installed over the weekend using just the stuff that was included. The install was pretty simple but I did have to flip the number 3 switch on the unit to get it to display either camera. Since I still haven't heard back from @FreshMexicanTaco I just went ahead and drilled a little hole under the emblem on my 2020 sport grill to mount the camera. Although it cant be perfectly centered because of the way the radar sensor is mounted its fine for my needs and provides a clear view of the bumper. I did not use the power supply that came with the camera, I just hooked it up to the 12v out on the unit and grounded the camera in the engine bay.

My only other complaint is when I switch to the camera it momentarily shows the default camera settings(image reversed/parking lines) before it snaps to the settings I configured but that's really just an aesthetic thing and I only partly bought this truck for aesthetics

Overall I'm very happy, now I just need my preorder credit...

 

How's the camera that comes with this setup? Good, or am I better off getting my own camera?

Does the camera bracket work on 2019 TRD OR grills?

 

Will this kit work together with car play plug n play harness or a mirroring phone kit?

 

Looks like the camera bracket is showing on the retail site now. I had checked at the beginning of the week and couldn’t find it. Here is the link if anybody’s interested.

 

Does that bracket go somewhere around the garnish sensor plate. Can't really make out where that is on the grill exactly.

 

Hopefully someone else can answer this as I have not ordered one yet.

 

Anyone know if there is a bracket that will be compatible with the 2016 - 2019 TRD Pro grill?

With yours and the #3 switch flipped to off will your rear camera stay on? Mine, when using the mode switch will go on for a second then back to the radio. I only have switches 1 & 2 toggled to on.

Also, where did you mount the germes box, I was going to have mine on top or bottom of the radio using the double sided strips. Rear camera works fine in reverse like it should

My grill would be the top link but not sure if the camera will work with that bracket looks to be suited better for led lighting because it mounts flush vertically and is not angled like the picture below of this other bracket?
