Headed on a road trip here soon and figured I'd see if anyone had any recommendations for items to make the ride better/safer/more enjoyable for the group.

It'll be my wife and two daughters (7 and 4) and the trip is about 10 hours. The plan is to drive straight through, save for a breakfast stop and whatever pee/refueling breaks are required.

I will have a camper shell on the truck, so a little more protected headroom than just a bed cover. I'll bring a basic tool kit, some coolant, flashlight, and the like. Spare has been checked for pressure.

I need another USB charger for the spare 12v outlet. Other than those things, any recommendations on stuff to bring along? Anyone have experience keeping the kids sane for that long? What are YOUR must-haves for a long trip in the truck?

    I appreciate the input!

    I've heard Benadryl works well.

    Kidding!

I keep a spare (old) serpentine belt in my tool box.
I do a quick once over when fueling up, pop the hood look it over.
You could keep a qt. or 2 of oil. Just in case you get a leak.

Other than that, it sound like you have a good plan.

Music and books on tape here. I bring a tool set, but usually leave consumable items behind. If i've got a problem that involves adding more fluid, then i'll probably need more than just the fluid to fix it.

Jumper cables and an air pump do come in handy tho.

Whiskey/Benadryl. Six of one, half dozen of the other ;).

    A little oil isn't a bad idea.

Not really supplies, but a modification. After trying it I'm completely sold on ceramic window tint now - on all windows and clear ceramic on the windshield. It's great 24/7 but really shines on road trips when you may be in a car for hours with the sun beating down on you through the windows.

I would take a cooler with drinks and snacks.
