Cross Wind front window noise TSB Update.

I been playing around looking at the seals that surround our doors its pretty interesting the amount,size and locations yet we still have these scenarios where air can generate different noises. the First gen did it, second gen, and our 3rd gen does it.
real quick check I did was how tight is the door seal/compression against the sill (metal). took a piece of shop rag (not cloth) put it between door seal and sill, closed door and pulled up on it to try and see how much seal compression their is.
none in the upper rear corner of the drivers door where most of my noise comes from. I repeated the rag insertion by opening and closing the door moving it towards the front and it was noticeably harder each time to pull out. that is why the drip tube install seems to have a fair chance of making a positive effect.

 

I had that exact same noise,I put a very thin bead of silicone on the side view mirrors in the gap between the black part and the color matched or chrome part(on Limited) and the noise is completely gone! It's been gone for months!

 

Get some liquid silicone spray and put it on a rag and wipe your entire door seal with it...

Bet that works..

 

Toyota replaced the weather stripping on the two front doors to resolve this issue. However, there seems to be more cabin noise now. Specifically with the wooshing noise from cars passings, driving on wet roads, or normal wind noises. I acknowledge that these are all normal to hear from within the can but the volume sounds as if the windows are cracked open. Anyone else notice this after getting new weather stripping installed? I brought the issue up with my dealer and they said the noise they heard is normal.

 

I watched a YouTube video where he got TACO weather strip marine sealant rubber gasket 10 feet and applied it on the outer guide on the body side and let it go all the way around. It presses against the edge seal of the door. All I know the noise stopped even at 85 with a strong side wind. Amazon has the rubber seal, it is meant for coolers. Yea team.

I have had my truck in to my dealer 4 times for this issue. First time they told me it was normal. Second time they "adjusted something", and told me it was normal. Third time I provided the updated PN and they "couldn't find that part" and then glued a piece of tubing in the channel. Fourth time I brought it in, they replaced the driver and passenger side outer door seals with the updated seal. Its still louder than when I originally bought the truck, but is a bit better. Still not 100%.

The original noise seemed to come from the top corner of the door/window frame, now it seems to come from the mirror area... Frustrating.

 

2020 SR5 here. Same issue. Wind noise above 45mph on both driver and passenger side. 3 trips to dealership -- recognized as an issue and confirmed by technicians -- however since TSB is up to year 2017 Tacomas, they are seeking further instruction from Toyota. I made few calls directly to Toyota, and they have replied that this is a characteristic of a vehicle!

Only way to get Toyota to do something is to call and complain. They operate on quantity of complains hopefully.
Funny thing, on a way back from a dealership -- I was given 2017 Camry. And same issue occurred.
I have also noticed other models have similar issues, and all that makes me to believe that Toyota is producing weather strips (seals) that are under the tolerances, and it is affecting a lot of vehicles. I am sure they are aware of this. It simply must be cost saving decisions to ignore it, as frustrating as it is.

Part of it is definitely finding a friendly dealership. At first I went in and they couldn’t reproduce the issue. I eventually took a video, put it on YouTube and emailed the service manager with a link and a scan of the previous visit while I was still under warranty describing my issue and they did the TSB after my warranty was up no issues.

 

My 2016 TRD Off Road Access cab makes the same wind noises. Have had the truck just over 2 years now, bought used.

Bugged me to start with, now I just ignore it. Not going to waste time back and forth at dealers for some wind noise. Dealers pretty useless at most everything. This said from 35 years of driving 4 different 4x4s now, plus a lot of DYI work on all of them.

Just whistle while you drive, you won't notice it.

 

This is where I am now, 4 trips to the dealer. Still noisy. I will live with it for now, maybe in the fall I will try some DIYs

 

I had a lot of wind noise on my 2013 but only at high highway speeds and just assumed that’s the way it was. I have not noticed the noise on my 2017.

 

My 18 does this, drives me up the wall!!!!

 

Here is a question,
I never had an issue with the TSS sensor until I did the grill change out, then the sensor would stay on all the time, maybe go off but come right back on.
I disconnected the battery and re connected and all good.
Now, usually starting on the second drive it will come back on, stay on the same short time each time then shit off and not come back on. Not really a bother but just curious as to why it does it...,,

 

So I just bought a 2013 with this issue unfortunately the dealer around me is closed for service until the beginning of the week, Is there a mileage limit with this TSB

 

Experiencing this in my new 2021, took it in and the same "tech couldn't replicate the condition" answer. I have thought about using phone to record it, it isn't the buzz that the 2015 had, but just enough that I can hear it, like a window not completely shut. Will check the tsb.

 

2021 SR5 with the same issue. Starts at around 30mph and clears up again around 50mph. I'm a little bummed to see that there really isn't a good fix for it. It's not obnoxiously loud, but if I don't turn the radio up it can really get on my nerves.

 

I called Toyota USA and gave them my 2 cents worth about the speakers and the wind noise. Probably nothing will happen. I may try some of the fixes I have seen on youtube. If I can come up with a fix, will post it.

 

I was reading complaints about the noise and didn't have it on my 2016. Then on a road trip and a strong crosswind it started and would only do it on a crosswind. Traded truck in for a 2022 so it is the dealer's problem now. For the ones saying the radio covers the noise, you must be deaf because the radio didn't cover that loud noise.

 

My 2016 does it. My old work vehicle, a 2012 Tahoe did it too.
