    ^^^^What he said...

I painted the chrome grill on my 2007 Dakota. I sanded and used Bulldog adhesion promoter before painting. It looked good (as good as a Dakota can look), but it did chip easily if hit by a rock or a hard headed bug. I don't know how it would have held up long term, since some pecker head T Boned me a few months after I painted it.

Thanks! I like the concept of changing/upgrading/adding as much as possible to the truck, but still appearing clean and simple. The US Offroad winch mount may be on the pricer side, but you get what you pay for. And in this case, that is a super stout winch mount that fits perfectly into the stock bumper, and made in USA!

I think you can buy just the winch mount and still keep the stock lower valence.

And the kids will continue to Krylon their chrome and report fantastic results after a "long term" seven day city street "test".

Can you not remove the bezel and avoid all the taping?

And why is that? I haven't taken the grill out obviously but from the outside it appears to be 2 easily separated pieces?

The surround and insert are one piece. You can only pop out the Toyota logo.

Reading through all this, I’m still a little confused on type of paint to use, Enamel or Lacquer. Or does it really matter as long as clear coat is the same?

That’s looks awesome! I was thinking of doing plastidip for mine, but this seems like a cleaner look.

Sand all the chrome away and repaint it.

You should always sand the chrome off even if it wasn’t peeling. Paint does not stick to chrome.

Nice write up! Plan on doing my grille when it cools down. Right now 90's with 104 heat index.
