Anyone on here have one of these?
I was pretty set on the Alu cab shadow awn 270, but this one is very similar, a little bigger and $600 cheaper.
Curious to hear any first hand experience from people that have maybe seen both in person.
Would be mounted on a prinsu rack, access cab 3rd gen if that matters.
I know there are front runner mounts for the alu cab on front runner racks, but haven't seen them on a prinsu.

It's been a few days without any replies so time for me to chime in with my totally inexperienced perspective. :D

I don't have this, or any awning, but if it fits your budget (it seems to), and fits your requirements, I say go for it. Have you tried just googling for reviews of it outside of TW?

I found one good thread on overland bound about this, but just no direct comparison between the two.
I would spend the extra on the alu cab if it's really worth it. Buy once, cry once and all haha.
Saving money is great, but I have gotten cheaper versions of things in the past and regretted not springing for the more expensive but sometimes better product.

Honestly though, with all this "overlander" gear, there seems to be an issue with stuff that's ridiculously expensive, and I'm not sure why. Like $300 shovels and people eat them up.

    More expensive doesn't mean better.

True. I've been using tall tent poles and a tarp tied to my roof rack for an awning, which works fine in calm weather, but last time I was camping in Oregon it didn't do so well in the rain and wind.
This is an instance where I can definitely see spending the extra dollars just to have something easy to set up that won't blow away and not have to be tweaked in a downpour.
I'm fine with a normal shovel haha

Hey OP, any update on which direction you went regarding an awning?

Work was very affected by covid 19, so hasn't been in the budget unfortunately.

Understand. Tent poles and tarps have worked in the past; I think that they’ll work here too a bit longer.

Over GVWR and I keep adding more metal
I just ordered the OVS Nomadic 180 for my Habitat. I had an ARB for several years and never used it because I didn't like setting it up!

Also why I bought the twin compressor ARB. If it were the single, I'd never air down.

If you'll use it, buy it!

What's your opinion of the OVS awning? Just barely found them today and debating the OVS 270 or possibly an alu cab shadow.

Not to hijack, but we love ours. It’s a little on the heavy side, but it’s beefy which is what we wanted. AND Mrs. Red Mountain loves it, which makes me happy. Deploying is easy, and packing it up is still a process, but easier than earlier models, perhaps because they are now making the zippered bag a bit larger. Sean at OVS is quick to respond to messages. Ours was on back order from CampSaver, but a 25% off coupon was too good to pass up. There’s usually a 20% coupon CS offers. Happy Trails whatever you decide.

Thanks for that, I was not familiar with that site. Finally bit the bullet. 20% off is pretty good even though it was on back order.

Has anyone heard of folding brackets for awnings? I would assume it would be good to have the weight of the awning actually on the rack instead of off to the side while driving. Did some searching and was only able to find this one company that makes something like that, but they’re in the UK.

Mine just arrived last week. Took a while. Getting it packed was still a little tight. Might get better with time.

Had it up for a few days in the driveway during a recent storm. Didn't leak, great enough for a primary shelter to keep the tents and whatnot drier.

Appreciate hearing the feedback. That campsaver coupon makes it a hell if a deal. I have also been looking at this 270 vs the alu-cab and i think the ovs using the coupon makes it worth a chance.

So I was out and about the other day and did a little flexing. Noticed now that I have a full roof rack on my canopy(cap) that lines up with my cab rack that I got about 1/2" of flex between bed and cab when I was stuffed front passenger side and rear drivers side. This awning has 3 mounting points. How will this flexing affect that? Doe the middle point need to be loose? I will be ordering this thing one of these days.. Interested if anyone here has considered this issue, and what your thoughts were..

I'd just use two of the mount points, if you flex.

The Nomadic look like a great choice for the money. Anyone else ordered the LT version? I went with Passenger side mount now I'm wondering if that was the right choice. :goingcrazy:

The LT version looks like a great choice for easier deployment if you dont need the massive coverage. Im still considering both but the LT may be the better choice for faster camp make up /break down. $300 cheaper doesnt hurt either.

I have the passenger side, with just two attachments to my camper rack.
