California is almost always in a drought so it's a catch 22. Just cause the yard is dead doesn't mean it's not mowed and a green lawn isn't going to stop a wildfire but it will take resources away from fighting one.

Plus, if you're down in the burbs during a drought they will enact watering days/schedules for people on city water and fine folks for going off schedule (not happening ATM but it has before).

We're on a well and the electricity usage just to keep our lawn watered isn't worth it. Water only trees and plants and let the grass fend for itself.

About 15 min before that pic I needed my windshield wipers on medium about 8 miles away. We have gotten about that much 3 or 4 times in a week.

I use something a bit more excessive but I need to wait till the evenings or mornings to use it so the bees aren't out since I'd hate to accidentally take any out. I only use it for perimiter spraying around the house and driveway.

The ants like to hang out in the back yard. Not fire ants, but they love the trees. I put duct tape wrapped with sticky side up on the bottoms of all of them and that helps more than any chemical did
