@emund So I was one of those that tried the (disconnect VSS wire, and disconnect GPS antenna). I also have the wired in bypass. With the wired in bypass and these wires disconnected, I was able to do video in motion. I would however get an warning 1 time every time I started the truck saying (gps antenna not connected, attach gps antenna). I also was experiencing issues with my GPS not showing me moving from my home for about 8 minutes into my drive to work, or anywhere when leaving my home. After reading through more of these posts, I have changed everything as follows.

1 ( All of my wires, VSS, and GPS antenna are now connected)
2 I was able to turn on the (SET ON) using the video that is posted for software bypass in this post.
3 I left my 3 wire parking brake bypass installed. So my green parking brake wire comes straight from the pioneer deck and connects to the green wire of the wired bypass.
4 The Browser when used through the pioneer deck will play sound and video while in motion.
5 I am able to input an address or (place) on the pioneer screen in Waze or Google maps- While in Motion.
6 I have an Amazon Fire Stick installed on my HDMI input. It will continue to stay on and Do ANY function while in motion.
7 I No longer receive any kind of Warning at all!
8 I believe, that my wired bypass, is what allows me to input info through the pioneer deck while in motion. This is the only difference that I see (wiring wise) from others that don't have the wired in bypass.
9 My gps issues are also now resolved. I enter an address or place, and it IMMEDIATELY starts to move as I drive! Crazy! The deck actually messes with the phone gps if the deck does not receive an external GPS antenna signal. I would unplug my phone, which was also stuck on my home location, and the phone would immediately show my current location.

    Hope this helps!

@svermilyea Thank You! Wow, this is too bad. I've never had to do this much work to remove the original screen film. I wonder if Pioneer intended for this to stay on? Either way, thanks for responding!

I messaged Pioneer over two weeks ago about the factory installed protector, and never got a response. I did notice that the factory protector was brittle and had a matte-ish finish, probably to help hide finger prints. Like I said, I only removed it because I couldn't take the chipped edge on mine. luckily, I found a replacement in the tempered glass one off ebay. I'm happy with the new one; no noticeable increase in glare, and a little clearer than the factory one.

@svermilyea Cool. I believe I ordered mine based off of your ebay find. Makes me worry about pulling the screen apart while attempting to pull off the pioneer film. Mine is not peeling (yet). I wonder if I should attempt to clean the film and apply the glass over it, or just go for it and remove the pioneer film? Being so expensive, its a little scary, lol.

If your screen protector is intact, I would just leave it. Put the tempered glass ones on the shelf for later.

Yea did all that and more. I am baffled at this point. I can do everything else in the app except transfer firmware.

Why don't you try downloading the new firmware on a USB flash drive and plugging it in the headunit and updating it that way? That's how I did it because like you I had a very difficult time trying to update via my smart phone.

    Follow the steps @svermilyea posted.

Step 5 is the important one. On the head unit go to Settings -> Firmware Update

That’s the spot I had problems until it was posted here. I thought I could do the update through the CarAVAssist app, but that’s not the case. You download the update through the app but you install through the settings app on the HU

I can't get past step 4. It errors out every time transferring it to the headunit.

Try this one. It’s the exact post that got me going when I was having the same problem as you.

Yep tried that too. I get this error everytime. And like I said I am tethered because everything else in the app works. I have scoured the interwebs and even called Pioneer and they have no clue why it won't work either.

Judging from that screenshot you’re not tethered.

Looks like you’re on iPhone, can you screenshot where it shows you tethered?

The clock being highlighted blue indicates that I am tethered. And it pops up on the radio and tells me it is connected to my iphone's hotspot.

I now see what you are talking about. Lol. So my opinion would be, that the film that comes on the stereo is meant to STAY on the screen. I read your review and the other persons review and just took it as difficult. I STRONGLY BELIEVE that the film on the stereo is meant to stay on. DO NOT REMOVE THE FILM ON THE SCREEN!!! Lol put in bold so more people would see this. I also ordered the recommended size and had to slide it over because it was a little over halfway across the volume buttons that worked weirdly like this. I need to recheck my sizing and maybe order another set

!!!!I WOULD ONLY INSTALL A GLASS SCREEN PROTECTOR IF THE PIONEER ONE IS DAMAGED OR PEELING!!! Caps for attention

Can u please check your eBay order and tell me the exact size u ordered? I got the 220x122 and feel that it should be slightly larger? Maybe? Thanks!
