    That's a damn nice 1st gen

Beats the heck out of what you usually get for 23k

I really don't think its outta line if the stuff that dry rots has been replaced, i.e. timing belt and tires

Course dealership is gonna have wiggle room, I'd be happy at 20k

I see these rigs on Bringatrailer.com go for 20k plus all the time.

One of the things I love my taco for is its resale, but this seems bananas to me...I had a first gen I bought for $10k with ~135k about 7 years ago (which I thought was a very good deal), & sold it 2 years later with ~165k for $12k (which I thought was a fair price). But a year ago I started looking at second gens & just couldn't find anything I thought was worth pulling the trigger on...everything I was interested in (I wanted under 150k) was $15-25k! I ended up talking myself up to a 3rd gen...I think I got mine for a steal at $25k with only 30k miles on it...I figured it was well worth it to get a truck 10 years newer & 100k less miles on it!
I mean, I love that they hold value!!! But I guess that works both ways...they hold it so well that it pushed me away from getting one with like 125k miles.

How much do you think the dealership gave this guy on this '03?

My original thought was super low, at like $4 or 5k...which is possible if the trader didn't know what they were doing! But maybe up to like $7k(?!)...I can't imagine them going higher than that on a nearly 20 year old truck!
This is one of those vehicles, where trading doesn't make any sense at all...
Either way, the dealer is WINNING!

Prices of all previously owned vehicles are up. Lots of people decided that due to Covid19 they don’t want to Uber, rather drive than fly, etc.

For sure, that's where I'd be selling it if it was mine

As far as build quality and longevity, the 1st gens are on par with 100 series LC's and they bring top dollar when from a dry climate and 4x4

I bought my Hundy private sale, a 2000 with 90k on the clock. Gave 17k for it......drove it 2 years and when I sold it for 15.5 it had 135k on it.

These Toyotas are worth it people, especially right now!

It’s auto, so not worth a crazy amount, I wouldn’t throw more that 16k at it cause dealer fees will get you to 18k

Still looks like it has more frame rust than my 95 with 309k on it. Lol

I bought my 95 SR5 back in 2002 with 51k miles on it for $12.5k and thought it was expensive then...Crazy how much they still go for.

Shoot, if you had the means, buy it from the dealer and then post it to BaT. I bet you could come close to doubling your money.
