Is a manual Tacoma really “sought after”, rare or more valuable?

Because 95% of buyers dont want one or are indifferent. The other 5% MUST have a MT.

They're definitely sought after. I special ordered mine exactly how I wanted it. Are they worth more money? I guess that depends. Mine is worth more to me - I wouldn't consider selling it for any less than $75,000 :)

The only car I've ever noticed that people routinely shell out extra money for the manual vs auto is the Miata.
For my Tacoma the thing that sold me on the manual was the fact it was $3,000 less than the auto I was looking at.

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.

I've bought 3 manual transmission Tacomas , and have sold 2. Both that I've sold had offers at or higher than the auto counterparts in under a week. The first in a few hours (actually raised the price), the second on the 3rd day listed.

You will not have a problem selling a manual transmission for the same or more than an auto. There are a ton of autos, very few manuals.

Thats crazy that they dont offer corvette with MT. I mean im sure AT in corvette is faster than MT but still. A lot of sports car are only offered in AT nowdays. Even that cool little VW R32 is only offered with AT. Quite sad.

I drove 99 e46 5spd on the weekend and it was fun. Probably more fun for me than driving 330 hp R32 with AT haha.

Sounds about right, the MT is pretty much all you can buy used where I am from right now for some reason.
I like both equally but I am getting old and my knees have opinions of their own.

New MTs are VERY hard to find in the Gulf States distro region, so the used ones sell pretty damn quick. But like others said, it's a small pool of buyers that are willing to pay handsomely for what they want.
    Cheers

Honestly, my first 3 Toyota / Tacoma trucks were all manual transmissions. This one, my 4th, is the first one that is an automatic. Manual wasn’t an opinion with on double cab long bed. I obsessed over the access cab long bed for that coveted manual tranny.

DCLB won out because I wanted the extra space. That all said, after 33+ years of driving manual Toyota trucks - the only time I find myself ever thinking my current truck not being a manual tranny is when I am NOT driving it.

I was only looking for Manual when I bought mine and wanted a 1st gen but it's all preference. I would pay more for a manual because harder to find as others have added.

Wait until Toyota discontinues the MT, then we may see a premium. Right now, I don't think so.

I suspect it's very close to a wash for now. No more or less valuable. Toyota probably has a very close estimation of the demand for manuals and they provide supply accordingly. As long as the supply and demand stays within reason the price will as well but if one suddenly changes...

I specifically bought a Taco because Toyota still offers a M/T with it. I find driving a manual is just more fun and a bit more challenging which I like. I have other trucks which are auto's and they are fine but for this one I wanted a manual, OR 4x4 since my last 4x4 had been a manual and I'm used to four-wheeling with a manual trans. Is mine a rare combo? It seems like it based on what I read on TW before I bought my Taco last April. Thankfully a dealer five minutes from me had the exact truck I wanted at a good price so I bought it. An auto version of my tuck would have been another $1,500. Will the M/T add to the re-sale value? Maybe, maybe not. I think my keeping the truck in good/great condition will help re-sale value more.

As an aside, I come from the classic car world and there we have a saying: "It's rare that I cr*p my pants, but it's hardly desirable." Basically Rarity (actual or perceived) does not automatically equal desirability/increased value.

    It’s real simple:
    If you’re selling a manual, it’s rare / valuable / sought after
If you’re buying a manual, it’s a big downside and dings the value
