I have seriously been considering selling or trading my camper shell. Several people say to keep the shell and not do the rtt. My wife hates sleeping in the camper shell she is slightly claustrophobic. She keeps telling me she would rather have a tent. The only issue is the fact the shell replaced my tailgate also. What do y’all think I could get for it. Only issue it has the front up window was shattered by a rock and i replaced it with plexiglass for the time being.

IMO rtt seem like a pain in the ass, if you need to go anywhere once you set up you have to break everything down before you are mobile. With the shell you don't have this problem. I'd only run an rtt if it was on a trailer I could leave behind. Do you frequently move around after setting up camp or are you pretty much stationary?

I stay stationary once set up I normally wait to set up until I know for sure I’m done for the day.

Are you worried with losing bed capacity or would you keep your shell or get another shell?

If I go rtt I would ditch the camper shell just for weight purposes.

Secondary market value of camper shells is always a tough pill to swallow. Someone in my area (Phoenix) has had your exact setup in good condition for sale at $900 for a few months. I'd expect to get somewhere around that but finding someone who wants that rear swing door setup might be your limiting factor

My issue I have found so far is everyone that wants it has a short bed. I actually live in Phoenix and picked this one up last year second hand.

Just curious for now, but where are you located?
That would be a good setup for my gal and I as we are both short. It might get her to actually want to camp a little.
    Is it already insulated?

It’s completely carpeted inside. I’m in Phoenix

I've been looking for a long bed shell for a while, ideally an ARE MX like yours but they are impossible to find second hand. Unfortunately I'd have to paint yours and put a glass window in the back so it wouldnt make much sense for me. Best of luck

Ya, I toyed with the idea after seeing the other local one for sale, I can't imagine a rear window setup is cheap though

I thought about checking into it but since I don’t have my tailgate anymore I would have to buy another tailgate

Sounds like it would be easier to just keep the shell and trade the wife...

Why not just a standard tent on the ground?

I have one but I have a trip coming up that I’m going on and don’t want to set up a tent and tear it down every day. A rtt is easier to setup by yourself then a ground tent also

So you're keeping it? Because I'm seriously interested. I want to camp out of my truck and I like the door.
