Reaching out about my 2019 tacoma. Im get a loud popping noise. Anytime i start to back up and turn the wheel to the left. Never happens to the right. Also happens if i stop the truck hard. If i hit the breaks. The noise happens after the truck comes to a complete stop right before the truck start to feel like its going backwards. Its not the ABS self check. I hear that as well. This noise is much louder. I have shaken everything down thoroughly with the truck both on the ground and lifted in the air. No play anywhere besides a very small amount on the CV axles. The sway bar seems plenty far enough from any other part of the truck to be hitting. The noise also happens when i pull out kinda hard. Anybody had this issue? The truck has a 3” suspension lift. 315/75/16s. Thats the only
Mods besides cosmetic things. Ive been trying to figure this out for weeks and it seems to get worse every time i wheel. Im almost to the point of saying f$&@ it and just driving it until something breaks.

You’ve probably already checked this but maybe some rubbing in the wheel wells? With a tire that big wouldn’t be a suprise that it would rub on full lock in reverse

Also look into body mounts up front. I saw a post about it recently, guy said was a metal to metal clunk and got worse over time even with low miles.

Start with tightening the bolts I did to fix the sound in my video. First I changed the radiator bushings like a lot will suggest and that didn’t fix the problem. If tightening them doesn’t help then I would do the radiator bushings second.

If you have a skid plate, check the bolts and also check to make sure it's not contacting anything it shouldn't be touching.

So. I figured out for sure what the noise is. I had my wife pull the truck up and hit the brakes hard while i watched with a light in the wheel well. I noticed the UCA sliding forwards and making contact with the washer made onto the bolt/pin for the UCA. Its definitely whats making the noise. Is this amount of slack normal?? There seems to be a lot of slack between the UCA and the washer. CB751C66-1F43-4F43-9CCF-3891E96AA72B.jpg

Only way to find out would be to retorque that bolt. If you know that's the cause of the noise, and it persists with the bolt tight to spec, then the bushings in the UCA are worn. At that point might as well upgrade to aftermarket anyway.

I re-torqued the bolts. The noise is still there but not as bad. It just seemed kinda odd for the bushing to be worn out at 36k miles. But probably 3k of that is off road. The truck see 4x4 at least 2-3 times a week.

What lift do you have upfront? Your profile says 3". That's a lot of lift for stock UCAs.

I would think aftermarket UCAs are going to solve your problem while giving you better caster and articulation while you're at it.

Myself and a lot of others have good success with JBAs. Here in the northeast corrosion is a real problem, so anything uni-ball is a no-go. JBAs are a ball joint design and require much less maintenance.
