I do agree somewhat with you, but when I purchased the vehicle we discussed warranty and where the truck will be. We both contacted the two mechanic shops up here and it was verified that they can complete warranty work no problem, but now Toyota is saying they will not send parts for this fix and cover shop labour up to X amount until there is action on the recall.

Just agree to have the local mechanic fix it and reimburse the money. Easy peasy everyone wins. Also, idk if this is the fuel pump issue anyway. Not based on the schematic as far as I can tell

hahaha "inaccessible location".. Clearly its accessible enough to support life. Dont see why Toyota couldn't send out a tech to do the work. Probably less cost than paying for months of a rental too.

Haters aside.. best of luck to you OP, cant imagine dealing with this with no official support. I wonder why the fuse keeps popping though.. I thought the fuel pump recall was a mechanical issue, not electrical. Could be wrong though

I'd pay the crazy shipping and get a take-off pump. Replace it and see if it fixes it. Who knows how long it will be before Toyota comes out with a fix. It will cost you a little, but you can drive if it works. Here are some on eBay for about $100USD. They are OEM, so there should be no warranty issues. Screw the warranty if it won't help anyway. What's the point if it can't help this time and probably won't help next time.

Who am I to question Toyota’s hotline, but per the wiring diagram.... how is the faulty fuel pump popping the injector fuse? It looks like all it powers is the injectors and the ignition switch - not the pump.

And you say when it pops, the engine will not even crank, correct? Dead in the water?
Were I you, i’d begin to isolate the wiring.
Put in the fuse, run the truck, and wiggle the harness, seeing if you can find a spot where it shorts out and pops the fuse. I’d also disconnect the injectors one by one and see if that prevents it.

Because either something is shorting to ground, or one of the injectors is pulling too much amperage.

I Came.to the same conclusion. There have been a few people that had bad injectors too.

Thanks everybody for the post and some guidance. We have some great weather this week and some days off. I’ll take a look at the wiring and injectors this weekend.

Yup engine shuts off, won’t turn back over, but you can hear it clicking. That’s when it throws every error message know in the world of Toyota on the display haha. It is inconsistent when it does blow, but the last two times I had it just idling and it went within 15 minutes. This was after I drove it from the shop to my house. So it will drive as long as the fuse is working.

I still don't understand why it's so damn hard for Toyota to get someone to produce these things. It's only a fuel pump for gods sake. Well it will send customers to Ford and Jeep. I guess their sales numbers are still good enough to ignore us all. I received the "interim notice" months ago. Their website says it should be available in September.

Well new update. Shop foreman was able to look at my vehicle while talking to a Toyota dealership foreman and determined together that the wiring harness needs to be replaced. The shop mechanic has no issue doing this replacement. Now the problem is, Toyota said they will not cover any sort of work unless I bring the vehicle into a dealership.

So frustrating, what’s the kicker is we have a Ford and this same mechanic does Ford warranty work all the time without issue. We just post submit the shop bill and Ford covers it.

In case anyone was wondering, a new engine harness is $3713.93 CAD before shipping from the dealership.

When you say you're talking to Toyota who are you talking to? The dealership or Toyota corporate?

At this rate I would try and get corporate involved and see if they can help.

That is talking to Toyota Corporate who is telling me to pound sand. My original serving dealership has been helpful explaining what they know. They were under the impression if I am remote I can get it covered as they have lots of clients from Yellowknife, NWT. They acknowledged that Toyota is “finicky” when it comes to warranty claims.
