At the risk of a little necrothreading, I'd like to ask the community if this mod, and the aforementioned parts in this thread (90404-51319) Union) and (9093003136) breather) are still a recommended for THIRD gen Tacos, and that these part numbers are good for 3rd gen Tacomas. (The union, specifically)

Is the front diff in the 3rd gens still vented up high in the engine bay? (I see a couple 3rd gen posters in this thread stating they can't locate their front diff breather in the engine compartment)

I've been blessed with some great trails in my back yard, but water crossings up to the door sills are part of the deal. This mod makes sense on paper, I'd just like to confirm it makes sense in real life. Parts are in the E-bay basket waiting to hit pay..

Try as I may, at this price point I'm having a hard time finding a down side to this mod. My apologies for bringing this back from the dead.

Thanks in advance for any educated, or fact based opinions.

It's always good to double check any work you're going to be doing with your truck especially when it concerns preventing possible damage from the type of wheeling we do. Check this out. https://state48overland.com/collections/state-48-overland/products/s48o-differential-breather-kit

The breather mod wont raise any questions on warranty as i was just was there yesterday to get the parts for this, but what will void it though is if you use any non-toyota fluids. So changing your own rear diff oil could jeopardize your warranty if its not Toyota Brand as I asked about this and other fluids including motor oil, annoying if you like doing your own maintenance sooner than normal.
Just a note as i did this Mod recently, so others may not want to mention any maintenance basic or otherwise in case someone wants tl be a d**k about warranties.

And they will make you pay to change your diff fluid early especially with excessive water in it, so just do it yourself and say nothing.

No they won't. Firstly they would have to prove it, not you. Secondly the manual states "or an equivalent oil of matching quality to satisfy the above specification. (e.g LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent)" So basically all you have to do is run the recommended oil weight and viscosity and you are good.

I agree which is what I told them, he said its not a certainty but if they can prove it not toyota brand oild (which would be a huge pain) they could deny rear end warranty.
I was mainly just putting this out there to say the mod wont be cared about, but if a dealership reallywants to get you they will. Like i said just say nothing, or say you used their brand of oil/fluid.

What? Isn't changing your own fluids with an aftermarket brand covered under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act?

Thanks for giving more info on this, sounds like they were just being asses because they were all busy. Thought it sounded weird because when i changed it i used the manual and saw the equivalent, and the “service rep” said it could still be an issue because it now includes what they called “outside influence” meaning you did it not them. So i guess it comes down to them having a bad day and trying to be difficult.

Finally warmed up and dried out long enough to get this 20 minute mod done.
I chose, as some others have, to terminated it in the upper portion of the left rear taillight cavity. I can't think of a cleaner, drier location without ending it in the cab.

Fluid filmed the spare tire lift mechanism while I was in there.

Couple of questions for anyone that cares to answer please.

The hose for this is 3/8" inside diameter, correct?

Second does anyone have a go to online source for OEM toyota parts? Namely 90404-51319 + 90930-03136
Locally after calling 4 dealers the cheapest is $22 for the two. I found a bunch of place online where it's cheaper before shipping, but after shipping it ends up about the same. Asking because I saw people in this thread saying they got both for around $10.

I used 5/16" and everything went together perfectly.

As for the parts, I picked them up off Ebay, but I doubt I was deal hunting, so probably around 20 Bucks.

The breather has to let air in also. If air comes out when is heated air must go back in when is cooled right. I don't believe it leaks through the seals. A seal is a seal and a breather is a breather.
