2009 Toyota Tacoma

New to Overlanding! I'm looking into getting a 12in rack for the bed but I want to keep a low profile for a tent to be level with the roof. However, I cannot seem to find and ideas about weatherproofing the storage area underneath. I want to maximize the space for camping gear and I drew a layout of what it could be like. Any ideas?
