What’s in your truck at all times? I’m Canadian so no guns

I go on road trips every weekend and while no extreme off-road (I’m still driving a Santa Fe) I stay within my abilities and my Santa Fe’s abilities. I would like to venture off the beaten path with the new truck. I currently carry an air compressor and a battery jumper but that’s about it.

I’ve ordered some Maxtrax and I’m hoping to pick up bubba rope and soft shackles too. I have a Diamondback bin coming and like to use it to store great.

Any other product suggestions?

I’d prefer made in the North America products. I don’t want anything made in China. Just a personal choice.

I use my truck in a somewhat similar way to you it sounds like, and i bought some dedicated stuff that does not leave the truck or get mixed with my other tools.

A framing hammer with a straight claw - often overlooked but can save your butt when things are either stuck together, need to be stuck together, or as a poor mans hatchet

Decent blanket - I have my grandpas 70 year old wool army blanket in there, but im sure technology has improved

Heavy duty ratchet straps

Bit set - I carry one with every bit imaginable since I run into a lot of "homeowner repairs" with my job that used every random damn screw you can think of, just make sure the one you get has a driver in it, a lot of them are just the bits which is very aggravating when you don't have a screwdriver for them to fit in.

In all seriousness, though, if you're venturing off road on your own at all you'll want to bring what you'd need to get un-stuck. So either a winch and the accessories (straps, shackles, etc) or some sort of come-along or high-lift that you can use to pull your truck out of a hole. Maxtrax and a shovel will get you out of most traction-related problems but they won't help you if you get high-centered somewhere.

Given that you're probably cruising the woods, an axe/saw to remove fallen trees can be a huge help too. It can save you having to back 1/2 mile (edit for Canadian-ness "1 kilometer") down a trail to a turnaround, for instance (ask how I know )

Really the most important thing to bring is your brain. Don't get in over your head, especially if you're on your own. Plan your lines ahead of time, check water obstacles for depth or obstructions, etc and you'll be fine.

A couple knives, 100ft of rope, ear plugs, a couple extra H11 and H9's, and a couple lightly used magazines for when I inevitably do something stupid and have to wait it out

 

Dude wipes and a spare change of drawers.

 

I keep a roll of Toilet paper and a first aide kit. Ya never know.

I need to go buy some jumper cables, socket wrench kit, and a tow strap.

 

Guns.

 

Trauma/gunshot kit with clotting sponge, bleedcease, lifestraws, space blankets, motrix filter tool, extra filter, glass cleaner, spray wax, microfiber, 2 MRE w. Heaters, air filter, tiregauge, pistol, extra mag, box of 25 extra rounds (hornady XTP) owners manual, dash cam, radar detector, sunglasses, ratchet straps, small tool kit, suckers, pens, notepad, and if I feel the time calls for it, go bag with more supplies, rifle either AR or 7.62x51 bolt gun, 5 extra mags, and 100 rounds boxed. Sounds stupid I know, but if you really need one of those things you really need it. Make fun if you like, but I am of the opinion that the odds of needing these go up every day.
